Le Chocolat Lounge

To know me, is to know my one overriding love and passion – chocolates. And I had a hopefully sinful date that night. I, who had sworn of all things wicked, sinful and tempting. Manit, I hate you! You Killer of Diets! Slayer of Will Power! Murderer of Good Intentions!

I walked in late; Bombay traffic is as slow as a drop of warm chocolate sauce dripping tantalizingly from the spoon onto your waiting tongue.

Damn! Why weren’t we moving? Call after call from those waiting – just made the traffic seem worse. I pictured them sinking their teeth into warm brownies, hot and fudgy chocolate sauce wrapping itself tantalizingly around their tongues! Stop! Pray!

At last, I reached KBN (Linking Road). Tucked away on the ground floor in the rear of the building, the façade is deceptively cool. Frosted glass hiding the wickedness within. I walked in and realized that I had the truest friends on Earth. They were waiting for me, before they ordered. I love you guys!

Manit, always the sweet heart, with his beautifully glowing fiancé – Ashwini – both gave me hugs warmer than sun-warmed cacao beans. Fiza or Dilfiza, I met for the first time. And there was Inderjit, who had been patiently awaiting my arrival. She and I go back a long way.

General pleasantries dispensed with, we got down to business. They had finished learning the menu by heart in the time it took me to reach. Ashwini took one look at me, and prescribed ‘Peace of Mind’ for me. “You look very stressed and tired, you need it.”

Of course, the usual dumb jokes about piece and peace were exchanged. Any way, wherever you find Ryzers, these things are known to happen.

“I am on a diet.” I announced rather grandly. “A chocolate diet.”

We decided to order a ‘Peace of Mind’ and a ‘Soul Igniter’. Hello! Wasn’t that contrary? But who cared? Not me, at least.

We all caught up on the latest and most exciting news. I think I won that round hands down. But, more on that later.

Manit told us that he had put up the event in the board, and received some weird phone calls. There someone who wanted to know whether we were going to lick the chocolate of the spoons or each other! Then there was another who wanted to know what happens afterwards, did people get drunk and naked and things like that! Yet another said that he was free and would try making it if there were women around. Hello! He may have been free – we were not. Sheesh!

Our desserts arrived amidst fanfare and ceremony. First came the ‘Peace of Mind’. Reverently, turn by turn, we all took a solemn spoonful. Silence reigned. This, I am sure, is what heaven tastes like.

After our initiation, we wondered what happened to the others who were supposed to join us. The ‘Soul Igniter’ and Tejas Datta, Krishna Datta, and Abhishek arrived within minutes of each other. Lots of loud laughter, jokes and fun followed. More of irresistible chocolate combinations were ordered.

Tejas was late because his suits hadn’t come from the laundry. Now that was an original one! He was also the one with a camera and insisted on acting like the Prima Donna of Photography. He went through a series of gravity defying, rubber-man like movements in order to position the camera – after mercilessly and tyrannically putting us through the torture of getting out of our comfortable seats and squishing together on the sofa.

Of course, you can’t punish innocent and God fearing people like this and get away scot-free. He got his just desserts, when he ended up looking like a ghost hovering over my head, while all of us looked real. He was not going to concede defeat, and a few more photographs followed.

In walked the last participant of the revelries – Ravi. Poor thing –there were hardly any goodies left for him.

Then, it happened. It started raining, thunderstorming and lightninging (Huh! Whatever). Magic! All in all, it was an amazing evening – all thanks to Manit. It was his idea and all his effort. Thanks man!

Oh! And by the way, can we have a Pani Puri Mixer, a Spicy Chinese Mixer, a ……? Please?

Had a great treat at Noodle Bar, Bandra, Mumbai once... a friend and I had ordered sizzling brownie with chocolate sauce and when it arrived, we both thought the sauce was a little too less for our taste... so the guy brings in a bowl of hot chocolate sauce and pours it on the brownie....oh yum!!!!
Must tell you that we were having wine before that...and wine with molten chocolate can give major high like no other! Very recommended!!!;)

There's another great dessert place off Carter Road, Bandra, Mumbai. Called 'Amore'- its a gelateria (an Italian ice-cream parlour.Gelato is an Italian frozen dessert made from milk (or also soy milk) and sugar, combined with other flavourings).
Will recommend it to everyone... get your senses blown!:)
