As a professional web developer I feel that both sound and flash have a place in web design but they should be used sparingly, and in the case of sound, only on demand.
When your site opens I am subjected to a loud sound bite which I tried to shut off but could not.
The click to go to the presentation shows me a page with a small scrolling text window which goes too fast to read and another sound file that is annoying.
The web is not TV. People are looking for information and not "commercials".
If you expect any sort of traffic to your site, it needs to get listed in the search engines. Since your site is done in flash it will not as there is no content for the search engines to read.

Not that I am a big fan of this site, but I think you are mistaken if you think the only way to drive traffic to a web site is via search engines.
Perhaps full disclosure abut how you make your money doinf SEO is in order instead of FUD?
Best,

We have been over this many times before.
I agree that SEO is not the only way to generate traffic but it is the way
that offers the most ROI.
And yes, I make money doing SEO.
I also make money doing web design, hosting, and marketing.
I did state that my opinion was from a professional POV.
If someone is interested then all my details are on my Ryze home page.
And how, pray tell, am I using FUD?
If you look in the Wikipedia FUD is:
"Fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) is a sales or marketing strategy of
disseminating negative (and vague) information on a competitor's product.
The term originated to describe misinformation tactics in the computer
hardware industry and has since been used more broadly."
I am not disseminating any misinformation and I resent your implications
that I am.

And yet you persist in repeating what is obviously not true.
It may be truye in some cases, but I think you should qualify it.
For example, do you think MySpace owes its ROI to SEO? I think not. Could it have one better had it spent more on SEO? Hardly likely.
I think the same can be said for virtually any web 2.0 site.
Those are but a few examples.
> I agree that SEO is not the only way to generate traffic but it is the way that offers the most ROI.
If you qualify your statements properly, to say which sites muight benefit, why and how, instead of making blanket statments such as above, that there is only one way to maximize ROI, well, then you just continue to make yourself look silly.
You know, it is really not so bad to look at my point of view as though it makes sense - I won't hold it against you ;)

LOL, you give one example and call it a "few". AND you say "For example, do you think MySpace owes its ROI to SEO? I think not. Could it have one better had it spent more on SEO? Hardly likely."
I would like to point out http://plentyoffish.wordpress.com/2006/08/07/aol-search-data-shows-myspace-growing-via-seo-spam/
And please do your due dilligance before making your statemants Barry. Go to MySpace homepage. Look at the source code and keywords tag. First in their list is "friends networking" which shows MySpace as #3 on Goggle out of more than 69 million sites. Seems like SEO at work to me.
>>>If you qualify your statements properly, to say which sites muight benefit, why and how, instead of making blanket statments such as above, that there is only one way to maximize ROI, well, then you just continue to make yourself look silly.
Look at the audience in here Barry and then ask yourself who the statement would benefit. These people who are working to generate maximum ROI from their sites are in a lot of cases bootstrapping and marketing budgets can be tight.
>>>You know, it is really not so bad to look at my point of view as though it makes sense - I won't hold it against you ;)
What point of view? That I should qualify my statements to YOUR satisfaction? That would be a waste of time as you do not seem to understand the benefits or use of SEO.

I don't care for the flash and never liked intro screens. IMO flash should be used sparingly and mostly upon request - click here for presentation is ok. Some movement that stops and doesn't distract is acceptable, and most sound is just annoying - at least add a control to cancel the sound. The worst thing I have found lately is pourly coded flash files where the sound doesn't stop until all browser windows are closed, I was disgusted.
Your site seems to target an international audience, yet there are no options for changing languages. I had a hard time understanding anything that was being said, and the text was scrolling to fast. Maybe make the text box larger, scrolling slower and hire a professional voice if you must.
I have tried to watch and listen and still don't know what it is you are selling, looks like a success seminar or training and though I am sure yours is different, they all seem the same to me. Work smarter not harder, but work just the same. Funny no-one offers pay as you leave training. I would give someone a million dollars next year if they helped me make 5 million in the same amount of time.Private Reply to John Mack | | Sep 03, 2006 12:44 pm | | re: re: Check Out My New Website | # | Reg Charie | | >>the site is html with flash and can be indexed.
Yes it is John, and yes it can be indexed. However due to the content in the code it will stay buried in the nether regions of the search engines databases.

Despite all this bantering going on regarding SEO and whatever let me give you some tips.
You should definately redo the site in HTML, PHP, CCS and go for a nice, simple design, get rid of the flash alltogether. If you want to include a presentation do it within the site and give people the option to see-hear it or not. I would definately include far more information about this Matrix system and how it works, testimonials; in writing! You need to give a sense of reliability and transparency if you want people to buy into you.
Hope this helps. LucasPrivate Reply to Lucas Allen | | |
