Amlan Dey | | Hi Ajay, Interesting site you got here. Following are my observations / suggestions.
1. The home page is an overload of information. A first time visitor feels overpowered and lost at first glance. I didnt know where to start or where to look in the first place to understand what the site is all about. I naturally started from the left side of the screen where you've categorised different kinds of art. I suggest that you have this area contained in the maroon/red background shifted to the right side of the screen. The orange area which appears to be the main section ofthe home page has the intro the site and the logo too. This orange area should ideally be on the left side of the screen since most computer users see/read from left to right. Having the introduction in an area where its easily readable at first glance will be a user friendly concept.I see you've done this in the inner pages. this makes the home page different from the other pages. would help in maintaining consistency between the home page and other pages
2. Artizensworld.net has a logo similar to crex.in. Nowhere on artizensworld.net have u mentioned the name. Both websites have similar logos and colour combinations. I'd suggest giving artizensworld a different look and visual identity so that ppl can differentiate between the two sites. A distinct logo will help the cause of artizensworld.net in having a recall value
3. the navigation links like 'about us...resources..'etc. can be bolder. On the home page they get lost among loads of content.
4. the thumbnail image in apparel design within fashion design category is not clear. It appears as if the same jpg file has been used for thumbnail as well as larger version. the thumbnail has been generated by modifying the width and height properties in the html code. Avoid this. resize the image in a photo editor and create a seperate file of smaller dimensions for thumbnails.
5. The page on apparel design doesnt have the links to different categories of art. the links which feature on other sections of the site have completely vanished on this page. Please maintain consistency thru out the site. The details of the designer can be displayed in the orange area and u can retain the art categories links in the red area. You need to reduce the size of the product photo to increase space.Ideally make a clickable thumbnail which will open a new window specially to show a larger version of the product photo.
Hope my review has been helpful to u. Feel free to contact me in private if you wish a thorough and professional review or even error detection.

The Creative Technologist | | Hi Jon.
Please please be a kind soul and let me know what ‘overwhelmed’ you!! Does too busy mean it responded slowly? Or there is too much content?
On my part I promise to mend my ways henceforth – and stat providing links in the post also.
Sincere thanks for taking out the time to view the site. Would really appreciate your views and comments.
Hi Amlan,
Thanks to you too… and also for going to all the trouble of writing back and giving your feedback. Believe me – it is really appreciated.
Let me answer some of your points…
1. The home Page has delibrately been made with the links for the artforms on the left side – to impress upon the visitors that this site deals with so many artforms. When we were designing the page – we had both options in mind alongwith the benefits and drawbacks of both. We took a concious decision to implement it in this manner, knowing we were probably going against a few norms. But creativity does break rules :-)
2. Actually artizensworld is a sub brand of CREX – just as the other five services that we offer under CREX. Again, you would find the CREX part of the logo being common across all the other services / sub brands. That has been delibrately to have a visual identity with the mother brand. Yes – maybe we can add some text to highlight the association.
3. Point accepted… let me see what can be done.
4. This can not be controlled as all members of artizensworld upload their own content in their galleries. It is not possible for us to resize every image posted – even though we might like to do so.
5. I checked. The page on apparel design DOES have all the links. What you see ARE the thumbnails. Click on them and you would see the larger visual with additional links like ratings etc..
I hope the above make sense. I know designing is a very subjective feel and different people can have different views about the same design. That’s a reality we all need to live with.
Could you please also tell me what you think about the interface, content & navigation on the site? Is it convenient or cumbersome? I agree that the home page has got too much info… don’t know what I can do about that :-( Any suggestions?
Thanks to you both once again…
Regards

Amlan Dey | | Hi Ajay,
I hope the Creator doesnt follow ur concept of breaking norms to be creative. If so, then some future species of humans wud be born having eyes at the back of the head.
U can request ur members and also make a provision to upload a seperate thumbnail image. if u leave it to ur members to do so chances are that they may not resize the image but crop the image and retain only the 'interesting' area or the area which is visually appealing. at times cropping makes more sense. Imagine the photo of a beautiful woman. if u resize it chances are that her beauty may be lost. However if u crop the pic and retain only her face, the details of her beauty may not be lost and the image wud be cropped to fit the thumbnail dimensions.
regarding your request for navigation etc. i'd rate them as follows:
interface: 2 out of 5 content: 4.5 out of 5 (i'm not from the field of art, an art lover might be a better judge of the content) navigation: 3 out of 5

A server can, and in fact, *should* do exactly that automatically, especially with user generated content, where the images can end up being the largest part of your traffic.
Not only does doing it in the html img statement ruin the proportion, but it doesn't do anything for bandwidth savings either.
Not sure of your configuration, but if you need professional technical and marketing advice that will get you nowhere but closer to your goals and dreams, I am here for you.

The Creative Technologist | | Hi Amlan,
Were the creator not creative enough and stuck to norms - we humans would never have been here in the first place ;)
I agree completely that the auto image resizing must be relooked at. Having the users submit seperate images for thumbnails IS an option but when we are talking of non-techy users (artizens!) expecting them to crop images might not work. Need another idea my friend.
Interface: 2 of 5 -- i hope it was not driven by the home page :) if could give some pointers or specifics i would try and make the interface better.
Suggestions are welcome... we all keep learning.
Thanks for all your efforts... and look forward to learning some more tips...

The Creative Technologist | | Hi Barry,
I was not trying to say that auto resizing should not be done! Had wanted to say that individual editing of images from our side was not possible. If I conveyed the wrong impressions - I stand corrected.
Auto resizing is something that is even currently being done by the system on the fly. However, in some cases the proportions ARE getting distorted or the clarity is being lost. We are trying to figure out the reasons.. Any idea why it could be happening??
Thanks
