Some time ago I began studying about the benefits of eating predominately raw foods. I learned that using a combination of 80/10/10....80% carbohydrates, 10% fats and 10% proteins had tremendous health benefits. I am a believer. When implementing this tupe of diet, you will discover obesity to not be a problem. Your health will improve dramatically. It is worth a try!

Hi Katie, Sounds like you are very much on the right track! The key is definitely to take an interest in what you eat. As your awareness grows your eating habits will gradually change. It never has to be a hardship that you impose upon yourself. As your knowledge and awareness of healthful eating grow better habits will naturally displace the old habits.

I'd like to expand a little on Gilda's good advice. I agree that including more raw in your diet will help immensely. If you are eating raw vegan you will naturally have about 80/10/10 carbs/fats/proteins. While that may be an ideal to move toward it would be hard to jump there directly. Starting from where you are just focus on eating mostly whole unrefined foods. Carbs are good but not if they have had all their natural fiber stripped out. Our bodies are made to consume foods in the ratios created by nature. Here is also where paying good attention to your food pays off. If you are used to prepared foods with seasonings and salt then simple whole foods may not seem satisfying at first. But, if you look at them closely, smell them and pay attention to their flavor as you thoroughly chew them they will open up to you.

Of course the other component of well rounded health is regular exercise. The same advice about paying good attention and taking it at your own pace apply there too. I'd suggest getting out to walk somewhere in nature. Get your attention out into the beautiful sights sounds and smells of nature and you will be drawn to keep coming back.

Good luck on your new path! All sorts of good new experiences await you.

Exercise should definitely form part of your routine in order to lose fat and build muscle. The more muscle you have, the easier it will be to burn calories.

Hi Katie,

I would recommend food combining, meaning not to mix proteins and carbohydrates at the same meal. Great book to learn the principles about foods combining - "Fit for life" by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond.
And of course the usual... 8 glasses of water and exercises :)

Blessings,
Lilia

HI Katie,
Welcome!
Just take one step at a time and slowly replace one bad food choice with a good one. Drinking plenty of water always helped me with weight loss. I think deciding to buy all organic is a great decision.

Blessings,
Janet

I've been eating only raw foods for a few weeks now and I can really feel the difference. I used to wake up tired but it's mad me feel more awake and healthy. it is a bit boring though!
