Hi folks!
Thanks to Mehul and Porus for suggesting to start this thread.

Who knows what is in store for us here but now it may be lying in your house or office unused or untouched for years?

Happy bartering/exchanging.

A great way to dispose off old unused items desirable to others.

In today's day and age everything is collectible. 'Collectible' does not imply 'profitmaking', but rather a love to build up a collection of similar items / items of same genre or type. Each of us has a different mental makeup, likes/dislikes, stimulus, risk-taking and financial capacity. Some individuals are collectors and others are not. The effort here is to provide an informal platform for one group get rid of stuff they do not want and for another group to obtain them.

My take on some of the items that could be offered on this thread:

Old books on art, architecture, classics of literature / history.
Auction and other art catalogues
Old LP/SP records
Comics
Beads
Photographs
Autographed books / photots etc
Cricket memorablia
Movie posters
Stones
Crystal
Glassware
Porcelain
Old furniture
Wood carvings
Metal
Old pewterware
Old coins
Stamps
Labels
Wrappers
old pens and nibs
..
etc
etc
etc

Who wants art catalogues? The galleries might kill me for this, but I have a huge collection going - 4 pages to entire books.
On a serious note let me chk them out and I will revert on this.

Umesh, what can I get for an art catalogue? You're the art dealer, pl suggest.

Cheers

Nalini! I wanted to suggest to you but thought you would be offended.

Lot of art critics keep writing to me saying that they cannot afford artworks and cannot ask the artists since they lose(ethically) value but love to start collecting artworks.

My best advice would be to start accumulating works step-by-step:

* You know the galleries very well, you will get fantastic price due to the fact that you know them but you may be afraid to raise the issue with them.
* I would be happy to help you start your collections!
* I have a whole lot of artworks of very good artists from different states, some of them may be passing out students of some Art colleges, which you can own.
* Whenever you do writeup on artists> send them a copy of your article and ask them for an acknowledgment (may be a print/etching) If you do not ask, how should they know that you are interested in collecting Art?

Cheers!

Umesh, how sweet. I actually have started a collection all bought from artists such as Hariraam (abstracts), Ramesh Terdal, Anand Bekwad, Dilip Kr Chaudhary to name a few. I must tell u that artists have offered me paintings for my write-ups but I don't accept any as a matter of policy.

Frankly, I have never bought from a gallery, I always buy from the artist directly - better rate/ no gallery commission.

Affording art is not an issue for us since writing is a hobby for me (obviously, no one can survive on this:-)

I appreciate your suggestions, and I wud love to buy from you in the future.

My only regret, a Suhas Roy oil in a gallery that I did not decide on the spot and next day it was sold! That hurt!

Cheers

Nalini,

Are the catalogues signed by artists?

I have a few MARG magazines, which I could barter for signed or good quality auction catalogues.

Also some periodicals from the Bihar School of Yoga. These make excellent reading material.

Sonali, unfortunately I don't have Sotheby's and Christies catalogues. But, I'm delighted to see so much interest in them! I think have a few very good ones, which I'm afraid I can't part with:)

Now, I'm inspired to clean up my cabinet where there must be atleast a 100 catalogues.

But, thanks anyways.

Cheers

Anshoo,

May consider if you have any 45 or 78rpm records for exchange with old books or unsigned prints.
