It is always a relevant question since there may be many times when people unknowingly begin pushing themselves to obtain money in amount far greater than any amount that they may personally need or have use for during thei entire lifetimes - why is this?

Without money we would not be able to buy food, have a home, have a car, have power, have running water, toilet paper is nice and a necessity. Those are but a few things we need money for. Then there is medical care costs, dental, chiropractic, health food store products, vitamins, prescriptions. Then we need monies for car insurance, house insurance, life insurance, most of which are required to have. Then there are property taxes, state taxes, federal taxes, then we need money to pay bank fees to be able to cash checks, or have bank accounts, which sometimes can be free if we have enough money. Then when we think we have enough money, gas rises in price, food rises in price, homes rise in price, vehicles rise in price. Then there are unexpected repairs to vehicles, homes, and our physical bodies. I guess those are but a few of the reasons we need money.

If, instead of a system where the taxes are merely collected and then utilized for the large major projects that the governments undertakes to help the business and commerce to take place as well as transportation and other services that are needed and then stockpiling the profits that are not utilized in a Federal Reserve - the money that is in the reserve pile that the government has accumulates be put to use for different commercial activities so that this money in turn produces profits just as any other business and then that profit went into either paying for the services that the government undertakes such that the amount in taxes could be lowered and/or returning money to people so that they could utilize it their own households which could be run as small businesses as well -
just some thoughts that have been running through my mind since all of the recent activity in the financial markets -

It would make sense to return monies to people who have worked and had taxes taken from their wages. A large chunk of monies are taken out of the average workers paycheck for taxes. When they do get a raise, it seems taxes are raised as well, or at least the cost of living rises. For most middle class workers, the more they make the more they take seems to be the motto. They being the state and federal tax withholdings. I will think on this more when my mind is fresher. A busy day today for me, which I am thankful to be working!

I have reread your thoughts and agree with starting at the top of our government and running things more like a business. It would make sense to allocate monies to causes that will return revenue back into the system without increasing taxes. It makes sense to have states, and local government do the same.

It sound reasonable on paper, and put into practice, possible. Have you thought of proposing this to anyone, Walter?
Back to washing dishes. Have a good evening Walter.
