 Timothy A McGinty | | All,
I met with my local Sales Account Manager from Borders Bookstores to discuss hosting of the Emotional Endurance Discussion Groups. To say she was excited is an understatement. She is aware of the book but has not YET read the book (she will be attending my first group). Borders Bookstores has a number of programs that will assist you in forming and hosting your discussion groups. This includes: key facility identification in your area (high volume locations), marketing assistance, and a corporate discount program! What does this mean to you? They will meet and strategize with you how to maximize group attendance and offer you a discount on the book that you can pass along to attendees. Your local Sales Account Manager will fill you in on the details. I am having attendees buy them directly from me at the first session to ensure everyone purchases a copy of the book and is prepared for the group.
I have arranged for my Sales Account Manager to provide me with a list of the local Sales Account Manager contact in your respective areas so you can contact them. Conversely, with your permission, I would also like to provide her a list of your contact information so they can reach out for you as well.
Please post a response indicating your desire to be included in the effort or not. Thanks!

Paula Quick | | WONDERFUL, Timothy! THANK YOU!!!
I am the Richmond E-to-E facilitator in Richmond and have a location lined up at a coffeehouse but that won't come until March (since it hasn't opened yet) and I need a location closer to home. My plan is to have two groups -- one in the West End where I live and one in a trendy part of town called Shockoe Bottom -- about 25 minutes away.
Barnes & Noble is five minutes from my house but the Community Relations Manager has not returned my phone calls and is now on vacation for two weeks. It also was a bit of an ordeal getting the book through them although I DO have it.
Since Borders is 10 minutes from my home and I shop there all the time, as well, I would love to make that "home base" so to speak.
My name is: Paula Quick 804-363-5721
I would love to speak with the local contact so let me know when you pass on our names.
Good job and thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Suzanne Mulvehill | | Well Done Timothy!
I actually meant to post this here rather than in a new topic. I'll email Paul, who is hosting the South Florida group and see if we can move our group to Border's. I love that they'll help with the marketing. Maybe we'll even be able to get a blurb on their website to help promote the groups nationally. This will really help to have a national partner. Thank you Borders!! Thank you Timothy!
I am so grateful to all of you who are making this possible. Thank you.

 Warren Wandling | | Timothy,
I have my meetings scheduled at Borders starting on Jan 14. I have contacted the sales Manager of that store, but I was not aware of the discounts or other offers. I will follow up with the Sales Manager at the Borders in Overland Park, KS. Please keep me posted. Thank you for your efforts.

Hi Suzanne, Save you a step. Borders is open LONGER than the library, so that would be a better option too, I agree. I will have to meet with you one day soon too since it is only fair you met Sara first, my wife!! :) I heard your tall in person. LOL But, that's ok. Can you tell I like meeting anyone?
Chat further as we develop our marketing and classes in the south here in Florida.

Karen Del'Marmol | | Tim - I, too, would like to have a contact name. The Borders near me is in North Wales, PA (they may have it listed as Montgomeryville, PA). I've tried to get my meetings going at the local Chamber of Commerce but the President has been ignoring my emails and phone calls. Borders was actually my first choice, anyway.
I think, at this point, my meetings will start in February. This is great info, Tim, and I appreciate your initiative.Private Reply to Karen Del'Marmol |

Corinna Bowers | | Me too Tim! My closest Borders is in Franklin, TN.
I've had a heck of a time getting the word out about my group--I've sent several PR/announcements to the paper and emails to various Chambers of Commerce, SBC, meetup groups, etc, and received no response. Only one person attended my first meeting so I've been feeling a little frustrated.
I arranged for my groups to be at a Barnes and Noble but they forgot to add my listing to their newsletter this month. I'd love if Borders were more proactive and interested in hosting my group.
Whew, sorry for the venting! If anyone has any suggestions or feedback, I'd much appreciate it!

This might be a tad OFF topic, but I thought to post it here according to some prior posts. I feel a little out of my comfort zone because I really do not have a lot of extra time to committ to even being a facilatator and I also prefer SMALL groups of 10 and NOT 50 people showing up. But, I also sense that a large turnout is unlikely based on some results I have seen. But I never know, huh? So, I am preparing as best as a I can. Suzanne gave me some great contacts with local papers that she knows personally and we wrote a press release together thru emailing back and forth. As long as I have an agenda BEFORE the meeting, and I hope to go around the room of 10 or so and introduce one another and set up any expectations for the next 6+ months. Some reading homework in the E2E book and then ask someone to speak for 2 minutes about an experience that they might want to share the next month based on chapter 1...then go thru some notes to prepare for the chapter 2 homework...and then repeat. Sound like a plan?

Timothy A McGinty | | I want to provide you all an update on Borders. My contact is gathering the necessary information for everyone from her National Marketing Director. I will forward the information as soon as I receive it. The process was slowed a bit due to my contact having some family health issue to deal with. She is now back on track so things will be picking up.

mark adams | | I will be approaching Barnes&Nobles this week about our discussion groups. I am the E Facilitator here in State College Pa. I am excited about what we do and I will be posting here frequently.Unfortunatley Borders is too far from where I live at. I wonder if we can get a similar agreement from a Barnes&Nobles like what Borders agreed too. What do you think of this everyone?

 Timothy A McGinty | | All,
I am providing everyone an update regarding the relationship with Borders. They have apologized for the slow movement as this is the first time that someone has approached them with a national initiative of this nature.
We are currently working with their corporate office in Ann Arbor Michigan to define a process that is effective for both sides. Until the process is defined bytheir corporate office, they have asked that we operate in the following manner:
1. Make contact with the local Store Manager to introduce yourself, the program, and to gather the name of the Regional Marketing Director responsible for that store.
2. Contact the Regional Marketing Director to introduce yourself and the Emotional Endurance Discussion Group program. You can then strategize with the regional marketing Director on which stores are their busiest in the area for holding your groups and establish your target dates. The two of you can then work together to work with teh Store Managers that have been identified.
3. Strategize with the Regional Marketing Director on marketing the group to their existing customer base (typically emails and their events calendars). You can establish the timelines at this time so that everyone involved will knwo what is going to happen when and how people can register for your group.
4. Coordinate with the Store Manager regarding where in teh store the groupd will be held (typically in their coffee shops).
Please let me know if you have any questions about the above and good luck.
I will forward information on the national program once they have finalized it.

Michael Jenkins | | Hi Timothy,
I have contacted the Borders store in the Carmel Mountain area of San Diego. I spoke with the store Sales Manager, Diane Henderson. She connected me with Mike Gibbs, Regional Sales Manager for the area. He said he had no problem and referred me back to Diane. I did call her back and she will check with the store's General Manager (Greg) on Monday. He was not there today (Friday).
Just wanted to update you.
Thanks, Michael Jenkins

Michael Jenkins | | Well, I will need to find another option. The Borders I approached decided not to allow me to have the group there. My Borders wanted to order books from the publisher to have in the store, but felt that because the book is self-published they did not have the option to return books if not purchased.
I offered to purchase the books for the participants (as suggested) they still said no.
Time to try another plan.
Michael
