Just curious what your thoughts are about this restaurant concept in a recent BusinessWeek article: "Your Waiter Today Will Be a Computer"

http://www.businessweek.com/smallbiz/content/jan2007/sb20070123_902747.htm

Here's an excerpt:

"Imagine a restaurant for the MySpace generation—one that doesn't force diners to leave behind their digital life when they step out into the analog world. That's the idea behind uWink, the latest restaurant business from serial entrepreneur Nolan Bushnell, founder of video game company Atari and the kiddie arcade/pizzeria chain Chuck E. Cheese's (CEC).

Instead of speaking to servers, diners at uWink order using a table-top touchscreen that doubles as a video-game console. (The most popular games so far? Trivia and Truth or Dare, Bushnell says.) Runners bring food to the tables, and a floating cruise director-type is around to answer questions and facilitate multitable team games. "

Great Idea / Bad Idea ?

I think that it is a wonderful idea. (NOT)

(Dripping with satire)

I mean after all. . . who wants to deal with anyone’s attitude of a poor waiter, bad chef, or a slow hostess?

Who wants to enjoy the report and recognition with anyone at your favorite eating establishment?

For that matter who wants to have any human (or Carbon unit) contact at all with anyone?

No more carbon units to half to deal with, no more problematic scenarios that carbon units have deeply imbedded in their hard drives.

The carbon units will only force you to interact with another human face to face, not allowing you to safely hide anonymously behind a computer screen.

And then think of the ease of interaction of the service and especially the tipping.

No more people giving you service, taking your money and cheating you out of something. . . .

Aaaaaahhhhhh. . . yes!!
I can see it clearly now. . . . .

A perfectly, sanitized, existence in the real world; devoid of any problematic dealings with the other seriously flawed carbon units.

By the way your tip can be acquired by filling out this form completely, along with your physical mailing address, genealogy report, medical records, and bank information, then my bank supervisor will request a bank transfer be sent directly to you after a small fee that is charged to your account to assure of your active account existence.

Hi Eva!

I think that it is indeed a novel idea, but something more attractive in the line of the Chuck E. Cheese types of people. That is, famlies or kids looking for this type of entertainment, with the food being of little importance.

It cold be entertaining for many people.
