Since the week before Christmas I've been sick with a lingering cold. I'm almost rid of it - and then I get sick all over again. Really sick. It's happened three times in the last month and a half. And I've been thinking what the heck is going on?
Several years ago I lost a lot of weight. One of the things I did was give up white carbs. I did it one at a time. First rice, then bread and white flour, then pasta, then potatoes and lastly sugar. I'd been addicted to white carbs - especially sugar for many years. I was also working out, etc. Doing everything. I lost a lot of weight and life was good.
And a crazy thing happened - I noticed didn't have a cold or a sniffle or a cough for almost three years.
Then for a lot of reasons - I got addicted to sugar again. I gained some of the weight back. Very annoying because I'd worked so hard. This past holiday season I baked cookies - the whole enchilada again - from Thanksgiving on. And December 20th I came down with this cold.
A few days ago I was thinking, "What the heck happened? I had nary a sniffle for three years?" And then it hit me. I was off the white carbs - especially the sugar.
So last Thursday (four days ago) I swore off the white sugar again. Fruit? Fine. But not refined sugar. I had a speaking engagement in front of a workshop of business women on Saturday and I was afraid I was going to sneeze and cough through the whole thing. I had cough drops in the pocket of my jacket and a bottle of water on the podium. After all I'd been sneezing and coughing for 5-6 weeks at that point. And I was speaking for an hour and 15 minutes - that's a long time when you're not feeling well.
The good news is I made it all the way through that talk without sneezing or coughing once. Now it's been four days and I'm totally sniffle and sneeze free, I'm not coughing and I've lost two pounds.
Hallelujah!!! *smile*
All the best,

Something that I found out this past winter/holiday season is there is a chemical that cut christmas tree's release and people react with sinusitis and this then transforms to bronchitis. Lasting from Nov to about Feb/Mar. Furthermore, even if you don't celebrate christmas or have a real cut christmas tree you are still subject to this because it is in the air. Just another possibility that my doctor shared with me. Warmly, Christina

We have an artificial Christmas tree during the holidays - but right outside our door was a big pine tree and they (the landscapers for our homeowners association) kept cutting down pieces of it - and last week it was cut down completely.Private Reply to Denise Michaels | | |
