Sharilee Guest | | As the Chapter Director for my local PTC Chapter, I spent the past 4 days at the annual Parent Television Council Grassroots Conference. While there I did not have internet access in the sessions like I had hoped, so I took the introductory powerpoint presentation and created a movie clip that introduces the organization. You can view it here. It is longer than I normally make movies, but it does give a good comprehensive overview and some important information for protecting your kids.
This is a great organization that provides valuable information to families and is having a powerful impact on what goes on the airwaves. They contact advertisers to let them know the content they are supporting, notify the FCC when violations occur, and do valuable research and provide important reports.
I encourage you to sign up to receive the weekly notices that will let you know which shows are family friendly and which shows to avoid, which advertisers are supporting the shows violating FCC standards, and other valuable information. You can also get involved in helping with only 5-10 minutes per week, or just contribute by getting the emails. We are all part of the solution or part of the problem. If we are not aligned with PTC our voice is counted on the side of those taking the media the direction it is going. Something as simple as adding your name to a list can make a HUGE difference!
