John Dilbeck | | Lee Odden, in his Online Marketing blog, performed an interesting little experiment using Twitter.
In his words:
-----
"Social media monitoring and social media measurement are two very different things, but I think many of the searchers and social media taggers using those phrases don’t always make the distinction. For some quick insight from a qualified audience, I turned to Twitter and within an hour had about 40 replies.
"It started off with this Tweet: Twitpoll: What’s a better term: “social media monitoring” or “social media measurement”?

What I found interesting was the speed at which the responses came in and his follow-up showing what a client's product could do to measure it.
This may not be interesting to everyone, and I don't really have use for the product he talks about, but he links to a few other articles and sites in his blog posting that you may find interesting and useful.
For example:
How to Measure Social Media ROI for Business: http://mashable.com/2008/07/31/measuring-social-media-roi-for-business/
and BlogPulse, a service of Nielsen BuzzMetrics: http://www.blogpulse.com/index.html
I know that I'll be using the BlogPulse service now and then and bookmarked it for easy reference.
For example, here's a handy little graph comparing affiliate marketing, marketing, and network marketing over the last six months:

(It was a very long URL)
Here's a graph comparing social networking, business networking, and online networking over the last six months:

I just thought of the term "online networking" off the top of my head to give a third item for comparison.
It's interesting that online networking so closely matches business networking, while social networking is much more prevalent in the blog postings.
I'm not yet sure how to make use of that information, but I'm going to play around with it.
Any thoughts?
Act on your dream!
