If you're building a business and are using the internet for part of your marketing, don't overlook the latest idea of using www.YouTube.com to promote your business model, your products or your mentorship capability. An inexpensive video camera, a tripod (please use one of these to avoid viewer malaise) and an editing software (imovie in MAC platforms and Camtasia by www.TechSmith.com for pc) will get you going. Set up your 'filming set' indoors or in an evenly shaded quiet area. Try not to have bright windows behind the subject. Your camera will autoexpose and close down the aperture resulting in a dark subject. Think about what you want to say and practice it a few times. Get a friend to help you. He should make sure that you are visible in the lens (no heads cut off). Speak to the camera but see only your friend. You want your message to be bright and friendly. Speak clearly and confidently and deliver useful content. Don't forget these three basics: This is what I've got; this is what it will do for You; and here's what I want you to do. Don't forget to tell them how to contact you. We're business mentors in the best business model on the planet! Check us out at www.GotStoneSoup.com or speak to us directly at 850 433-4087.

Once you have acquired the video camera and other materials needed to begin your video marketing campaign, you should create a plan. How many videos should you create? Remember that www.YouTube.com has a five minute limit. If you have several concepts or products to offer, make a short film on each. Tell you viewer: here’s what I have; here’s what it will do for you, and here’s what you need to do. Be sure to include a few constant items in all your films. Part of your intent is to create branding, so remember to include your business name, a call to action, and how to contact you. If you are creating a continuing story, then the setting and your attire should be consistent. Make sure that your wardrobe is not the center of interest, unless your intent is to model the new designs you have created! Solid colors and modest attire are less distracting. To give an appearance that the films were made at different times, be sure to change clothes and settings.

If you are several feet from the video camera or are in a noisy or windy area, a remote, uni-directional microphone will enhance the audio. This additional piece of equipment can be purchased at electronics shops like Radio Shack. Be sure to take your camera with you when purchasing this system. It consists of a microphone and battery operated transmitter attached to you and a receiver that attaches to the video camera. The connection jacks need to match in size. You will need to purchase batteries (more than one set, please), the one we use requires 9 volts. The usual tips apply: install the batteries when you’re ready to use the system, turn the transmitter and receiver ON, coordinate the frequency on each, remove the batteries when you stop filming for the day and cover the terminals with a piece of tape to avoid shorting them during storage. A light weight headset that plugs into the system helps the camera operator ensure audio is being recorded.

A timely and welcomed topic, Billie.

With your permission ... I'd like to use it in my blog ... Full attribution of course.

Here's a few more ideas to help grease the rails.

A few things before you start ..... Expect to use up at least a day for creating your script and another half a day for filming.

1. Write a script and try to memorize it. Record it without video to get a sense of how you sound

2. Turn off phone, cell phone, alarm clocks etc.

3. Have a glass of water handy.

4. Visit the bathroom before you commence filming your epic.

5. Try and use natural light for filming.

6. A Camcorder is far better than a Webcam for filming and even the $100 units do a fair job. (The flip sceen models will save you a ton of time with staging).
