(protien shake+herbal tea) he also takes medication for high b.p and to keep his rising sugar levels under control i need to know even though it these products have been given fda approval are these really safe. somehow the background of the co. and it's founder doesn't convince me of the integrity of the product. no offence to any herbal life suppliers out there. any experts on the issue? Private Reply to Tarannum Husein | Sep 13, 2008 11:54 pm | | re: is herbalife safe? | # | Tamara Roe | | I'm not an expert, but I do know lots about health and wellness network marketing companies and products since my family has been involved with this industry for over 40 years.
Here's what I do know: Herbalife has been around for years (a very good sign) and it is a positive company in the network marketing industry with good products.
Hope this helps!

I started taking herbalife since Dec last year. IT has been showing positive signs in my health. However you may want to use a low-sugar/sugar-free soy milk as your dad is diabetic. I've seen diabetics patients using herbalife also with positive effects. Gogle it up to find out more, hope the internet helps.. :)

I work as a medical advisor to herbal pharmaceutical and therefore try to reply this query. Efficacy and Safety of any drug or herbal product depends upon the R&D and clinical studies. In India rules and regulations for the herbal branded products are not very stringent. Indian FDA is giving licence to market the product in India but FDA is not concern about the quality and efficacy of the product. Therefore you should ask herbalife regarding the data for the efficacy and quality of the product in Diabetes. Regards. Aayudev Sharma Private Reply to Aayudev Sharma | Nov 06, 2008 5:15 pm | | re: is herbalife safe? | # | Mirdza Hayden | | Unfortunately, just because the company has been around for a long time does not mean it's the best company healthwise, even though they may promote it as being. I know a company that has been around for 140 years and unfortunately I can not say that all their products are that good, when it comes to our health.... Sure, some of them are, but most are not.
As far as the FDA goes, I don't go by what they approve and don't approve. When one single company is in charge of both FOOD and DRUGS, it doesn't really give me much confidence. I have read horror stories about the FDA, which I really don't want to get into right now, who are persecuting health-concious people.
We need to do our own research... We need to trust people and companies that are truly concerned about our health. We meed to research the companies and people carefully and not follow them blindly.
As far as herbalife products, I have looked at the labels of some of their shakes and they don't look very nutritious. They start off with soy protein isolate, which is not the best source of protein at all; research has shown that whey protein is way better (pun intended). They say they have lots of vitamins and minerals, but these are all synthetically made; you can tell by the "dl-" in front of the name. These type of vitamins are not readily accepted by our bodies. If you are looking for a good meal replacement shake, I would rate Young Living's Balance Complete a lot higher than HerbaLife's shakes....
Herbalife has been around for many years, and is huge in Colombia, my birthplace, but I will not join the company because I have done my research and do not like the products. I prefer to stick with a company that is just beginning to grow, but I know is a company I can trust.

I would say that I would have to agree with your great information. You said it well!
I know I was very brief in my post mentioned above and I didn't get into any detail. I was just trying to be lighthearted (as you can probably tell). I mentioned that the company has been around a long time and the products are good, or maybe I should have said okay, but some being in question like you brought up. I'm not sure how many of the products are "unsafe", but there are definitely higher quality products out there, especially for the money.
As you might have picked up on, I didn't say anything about them being outstanding because there really isn't anything earth shattering about the company or products either.
Yes, it's true there are companies out there that don't exactly have the best intentions for us, although some of them have been around for quite a while. It's really too bad if people don't know this.
We only take the best products out there as well, such as with our companies. Herbalife does not fall into this category.

Thanks to BFY for making this a forum to educate people. Yes, research is definitely important . . that's why there's certain companies and products that we will support, and some of them we won't support . . . I just wish more people were like all of us wanting to spend the time researching the companies and products. At least we have great resources such as this forum to learn from, as well as other resources. I am so thankful!
Herbalife is one company that we happen to NOT support, especially when we know of so many other outstanding companies and products on the market. Although like I mentioned in another post, Herbalife is not a "bad name" out there, it's just that there's so much better out there!
Sometimes companies can be around for a long time and have "okay" products that aren't that great and with some of these products in question, but we prefer companies with "great" products with no product in question. Because if I'm spending money on natural health supplements, I might as well be putting the best into my body! Afterall, we only get one body . . .
