Raja Shekar Reddy
Hi folks,

While the moderators and the support staff are at work scratching their heads and the others sitting with them in a meeting or a virtual conference to make this Network a better place, we the rest of the janta just enjoying the end result should also contribute with suggestions/feedback/queries to improve the content.

Here is my 2 paise (Rs 0.02/-) worth suggestion:

Apart from the regular Sticky threads, we can have another threads which could be important so,
Edit the thread titles such that they can easily found when searched.

For example:
At the beginning of the thread title add a text "Made Sticky" or some other text which appears in every title of the threads which are having some importance. That way it would be easy to locate those threads. Also we should mention about this in the home page so that all the members would be aware of this trick.

Lets continue some discussion on this issue and once we resolve this issue (or abandon), we can move onto another issue posted by the members(including the moderators - they are also members right?)

Raj.

Can we use a prefix which defines the subject

(Real Estate Required)-

( Real Estate Offer)-

( Placement Needed)

Stuff like that. Would make it easy to search. Some key examples can be given on Home Page. What say you?

My suggestions are got to more with the offline meets and the quality of interaction. Its become a habit for ryzers to confirm their participation for a meet and not show up (without even informing the organiser). This has to stop!

Secondly, participation on the network isn't high (most known networks on Ryze are going through this phase). My point is that if somebody asks a question or asks for help, we should try our best to answer those questions, provide some pointers or guidance to where those answers may get answered!

We have close to 4000 users (I'm not too sure of this number). With such a big number we should be able to do so much more!

It doesnt matter too much to me about what kind of online participation, whether we have sticky threads or not. All these types of steps will not matter if we don't participate wholeheartedly.

I would like to see the Ryze network as THE place for Hyderabadis to network, exchange information and help each other out.

Bang-on Sameer.

The organisers of offline meets or any other meets, are taking out time, and making that extra effort to know most of the Ryzers, more so, in their physical aspect, than just a nickname on Ryze.

If thats not one of your priorities, then please, would request to not to say yes, and not turn up.

Not only for the network, but when you book a place, mentioning that about 10 ppl are going to turn up for a Ryze networking meet, and just about 1 or 2 turn up,
it doesnt portray us as a network in good light.

If you confirm, then please do turn up, else, at least let the organiser know that you are not going to come.
This way, even he/she can better utilize his/her time, than waiting like a dork, for a no show.

rest, ill let the others speak.

Raja Shekar Reddy
On the meets, I have little experience to share with you all.

I am an active member in an online forum - teambhp.com(though it is not on Ryze networks). While all members of that forum across all other major cities were having wonderful meets, there was little or no activity happening here in the meets section. I am talking about 2006. But now in 2008 any impromptu meet(decided within a day or two or some times within couple of hours!!!) will have 6 to 10 people. And for a proper meet the numbers would be around 20(there were few exceptions where the numbers were 35!!!)

How did we achieve this in Hyderabad???

Its actually because few people worked towards the meets and everything fell in place and more so because of good bonding between the members offline. There were many number of times we meet each other when passing by others homes or even offices. Or there have been cases when one is going out for a party or some outing, invite each other so that we get to spend more time and hence more bonding. Many a time the default help line would be calling up a fellow team-bhpian before calling up any others.

Also some of the meets were organised in some good places which provided good break from the routine life.

To begin with, we start off having an in-city meet on a saturday between 5 to 8 PM. The reason saturday was chosen was most people have something fixed with their family on sundays or somebody would be visiting them. This particular first huge(we should make sure there should be 12 to 15 people) meet would be crucial starting stage and will set the tone for the future meets. The main agenda for this meet should be knowing each other, exchanging contact information, phone numbers, their work, hobbies,..... Keep the dining part away atleast for the first time.

One important thing, even though Ryze is business networking site, we should keep our business promotions out of this meet. Once friendship bond forms between members, let me tell you guys we will get help from others automatically. Why not?? when we become good friends we want to help our friends, dont we guys?? Its our natural habit/instinct.

In the forum I was talking above, there was a common agenda; which was almost all the members of the forum breath automobiles, eat automobiles, drink automobiles and sleep automobiles(some even to the extent love their cars more than their girl friends - some even dumped their girl friends for their love of their cars). The whole point here I want to make is "a common agenda". And our agenda should be "building relationships(friendships)", the business happens automatically.

-Just my 2 paise worth of advise

Raj.

@Raj-valuable inputs, you rightly talk of the bond between members on a network which results in meaningful activity. A number of times thoughts on what makes one come onto the network have been voiced. We also have to accept that a medium as this, things cannot be force / enforced. There fore freedom with responsibility / accountablity is needed. But how do we make it happen ? Among those who post regularly there is a sense of bonding.. which may not be so very visible.

for a starter Raj, why dont you start a thread and ask ryzers what kind of NW they would like to be part of.

@Neo& Ismi- Fully with you on the off line activity, appreciate your interest in promoting more activities despite the response or the lack of it. But why do you think it happens?? Maybe we need to be doing more "interesting" activities... like playing cricket ;-)

@ Raju- There was an effort some time back and threads with specific ppl responsible for the same were decided. We can start asking ppl what would they take responsibility for... again and start afresh.

more as things evolve...

Rajiv Lulla
As promised here are my inputs.

I am trying to keep my replies in the same serial order as my other friends have expressed their views. This I hope will make it easier for all of us (incl me) to follow.

STICKY THREADS

@ Raja Shekar Reddy (RSR) (Sir, apologies for abbreviation)
Instead of giving “easy to locate” names or "Made Sticky" legend to threads, why not make certain topics STICKY, let us agree on which topics might be of general interest to all or at least the majority of visitors.

For this I would suggest that once a policy decision is taken by the moderators and NW LEADER to permit more number of Sticky Threads, you RSR may take the initiative of starting a thread where you ask members to vote for and also suggest topics which might be made into STICKY
THREADS. This will make sure that subjects people need and want are accorded priority.

@ BVP (again sorry for using only initials)

I had started FOUR threads and also made them STICKY, to refresh memory, let me list down the same:
1) REAL ESTATE – BUY, SELL, RENT.
2) JOBS & VACANCIES – WANTED & REQUIRED
3) BUSINESS – INTRODUCE YOUR BUSINESS
4) SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

While all of these threads generated a good amount of interest, judging by the number of entries and views of each of them, they were, without any plausible reason, made “un-sticky”.

God, and the then NW leader & moderators know why. I do not want to get in discussions of the same and I am sure neither would you.

If there is any limit to the number of STICKY threads started by a single person, then, by all means let the threads be in the same of someone else, how does it matter?

Why is there an aversion to having a higher number of
STICKY THREADS on the home page?

Going by the logic that if people want to go to certain topics they can search for the same, why is EHSAAS not bound by the same logic?

Some members may say “EHSAAS is special / is SOCIALLY relevant / etc., hence it deserves to be there.
Fine I am all for it.
But why are the other topics being ignored??
Who decides which topic deserves to be sticky?
Do the NW members have a say in this?

MY DEFENSE OF HAVING MORE STICKY THREADS:

• They draw attention and are more efficient in driving traffic to the topic.
• They draw focused attention on a particular topic and are easier to use than having to wade through the entire list to view a few threads of a single topic.
• For a new / infrequent visitor who might be joining / visiting the Network, only for those topics, they are eye catching and make his / her experience more pleasurable and less time consuming.
• Lets more people develop a feeling of ownership and inclusion if topics of their interest are prominent. Right now only a single topic is STICKY.
• They prevent clutter. People like Mohd Khadeer who post quite frequently on Real Estate matters will vouch for the importance of having a thread which is of their interest.

Your thoughts on the same?

@ NEO
I whole heartedly agree with you and Ismi on the issue of people confirming and not turning up.
This is very, very, impolite guys. As a lot of us have said over the period of time, people who have organized the events get very disheartened if you confirm and do not turn up.
In this regards, I would request you to come if you have confirmed.
If you cannot come, pl be kind enough to let the organizer know.
Best is, if you have no intention to come, pl do not confirm.

@ NEO – on the topic of Ryze being a forum to network, exchange information and help each other out.

All this is possible when more people and their ideas and interests are accorded equal priority on the online forum. Agreed this also depends on the importance & relevance & appeal of the same.

LET US not forget the offline meets and events are because of the online reach and not in spite of it.

When Business / Commercial interests are interests are criticized and meetings to discuss Social initiatives are derided as being too culinary or food focussed, they only serve to create ill-will and exclusion.

On this front I can request some of us adopt a certain topic or two and take up the responsibility of maintaining both the online and offline activities of the same. Your work on traffic control needs no introduction here. If anything, it is a high point of the network.

On my part I would take up the BUSINESS NETWORKING & SEMINARS and HEALTH & WELLNESS topics.

@ RSR
I agree with you on the need to have more relationship building events to strengthen ties and camaraderie.
As you said the reason for there being more enthusiasm on team-bhp.com is that there is a common passion – namely automobiles – among all the members there. Sadly there are not too many common topics here. Maybe you can advice us on the same.

One thing I do not agree with you is not promoting business in those meets. Let us appreciate that Business is an integral part of our lives and I do not see the harm in promoting your business unless it is too obviously done at events where it is uncalled for. For ex: handing out brochures or business cards (unless asked for) at say, EHSAAS meal-a-month would be tasteless. Let us all use our discretion in this matter and err on the side of being discreet.

@ MAJOR SHIVA
Conscience keeper of the network.
Long time no see Sirji. Hope all is well.
You mentioned that Raj might start a thread asking people what kind of network they would like to be a part of. The same has already been started by yours truly. Here is the link:
http://www.ryze.com/posttopic.php?topicid=993479&confid=1287

Here I look forward to your proactive and constructive participation too.

Also agree with your statement that things cannot be enforced. Hope this applies to moderators as well.

Especially when dealing with issues that may seem unpalatable to a small group but are in the larger interests of the NW? More on this later, in a different thread.

Sometime in October 2007 a group of people, you and I included, met at Ofen Banjara Hills and talked about making the network a better and more interesting place to be.

A mail detailing the discussions and also the initiatives which were to be taken up by the people present was send by me to the following people:
MR. JANKIRAM
MAJOR SHIVA
ANSHIE
SATISH
SARAT CHANDER
ISMAIL
PAM (I think)
Some more names I am forgetting, apologies for the same.

Unfortunately, I have since formatted my hard disk and the file got deleted. If any of the people listed here and some who are not, remember receiving the same in a word attachment, sent on 27th, 28th or 29th October 2007, and have managed to save the same, request you to kindly send the same to me / post on this thread.

TO CUT A VERY LONG STORY LESS LONG:
- let us have a meet to discuss views and inputs from people
- once that is done let us nominate / appoint volunteers who will invest time and effort in turning our decisions into practically applicable changes on the network
- let us also nominate a new group of moderators who actually moderate and contribute to the network, their names can be put on the network in a link so that people can have access to them for any thing

Rest as things progress.

Dear Rajiv,

Your long post is well thought out and worded.

However let me play the Devil's advocate and give you the reasons for the reluctance for too many Stickies.

1) Sticky Threads get too long and hence need a lot of effort to keep track of the latest post.
2) Adequate attention might not be received for the individuals post, especially if it is business related.
3) Reduces the number of first page post( prime Slots)

These are some of the reasons I have been informed of in Private and find some merit in the objections.

I think this can be worked around by following certain simple rules

1) Even in case of a Sticky thread existing, If it is an event( like a meet or a specific service project where attendance is being solicited) or the business proposition has an expiry date then a new thread can be started.

2) The Presence of stickies can be a matter of convenience and not a rule that precludes members from Posting a thread

3) Restrict the Number of Stickies to ensure that a new post gets adequate time ( can decide by consensus what is the least time) on the First Page. This trade off is necessary to ensure that everyone gets a chance to post on the Network.

Call me old fashioned or plain old but the quality of interaction of members on the network or an active participation is a direct product of actual offline meets. Old network members would recall the vibrancy when Rohit and a few others ensured we kept meeting more often and that made all of us interact more on the network.

We have to find a middle way out:

Create a single STICKY thread with title COLLECTION OF STICKY/GOOD/BEST THREADS.

The mods can only post the links of the threads which they think deserve to be made sticky. Now we have only one slot assigned for STICKY threads. What do you all say?

you seem to have made up your mind about more number of sticky topics - rather about not having them...also your post more or less makes it clear that this topic is closed for discussion...hence will leave it at that...

I have not said the topic is closed but if we are in agreement or agree to differ then it is closed.

Let me add a small suggestion, you are free to shoot it down, Can we stop a sticky after it grows long, start a new sticky with same topic name and post the reference of the previous one as the first post for someone to go through archives.

Hmmm There is not arguing with Kidneys :-). You just dont stand a chance do you? The first chance that someone is winning makes the kidneys work and then you can guess what hap" pee"ns.

Anyway I counted that 26 topics can be posted on the first page. The No. of Stickies can be restricted to 1/3 r d- 2/3rd. 1/3rd which the network admins think are important to maintain continuity, the rest are for the members to use as they desire without violating the basic rules of the network. This is still a suggestion and open to change. As the leader i would like to retain the power to change atleast two current topics posted by some member to a sticky. So that leaves 6 threads to be made stickies.

The next step is for everyone to post what could be the broad sticky topics.

I am really hap'pee' that you finally got a chance to use your kidneys....on the NW that is....

as for the 6 topics that I feel are necessary / imp enough to be made into a sticky.....

1) Ehsaas - either one of the two, the meal a month can be made into a sticy 10-15 days beore the event so that it attracts more eye balls...
2) Job opportunites - have or wanted
3) Business - intro your business, this will drive more people to the NW on a regular basis.....create opportunities for physical networking.... and business....
4) Real estate - rent, buy, sell.
5) Hot current topic - which can be discussed / disected / by those interested in letting off steam / constructive argument etc., this can have a diff heading every time sicne the topic will change practically every week or maybe more frequently...
6) Latest event happening under the umbrella of Ryzerabad...if and when....

my 2 paisas.....rest as things evolve.....

I am surprised at the discussion going on in this tread and some other tread

Instead of some action /postings Ryzebadis are as usual indulging in their famous style of beating round the bush

As Ramana (Rams) has pointed out long long time back (2005) Ryzeabadis are good in giving names (me too me too) for events/meets but last moment 80% of them Will drop out due to personal commitments/Pressing last moment works and the organisers are left to last moment calls/SMS to see the required no are there

Apart from Ehsaas(thanks to shiva and Pam)and Cafereti (Thanks to sridala) no other activity seems to be going on in Ryze

Infact was in Hyderabad last week, but did not get motivated to reply to any of the treads, infact my postings/replies has also come down drastically since last few months

My food for thougts (Urvi r u there) are Sticky or no Sticky if People feel discussions healthy and intresting and useful to them they will reply /give suggestions and make this Network a Truely Business network.

Cheers

obviously your not being active has contributed to the decline in intellectual inputs on the network.

obviously you have not seen ALL the inputs made by a lot of people like Ashva, Neo, Shiva, Ismail, myself etc., over and above the happy banter and leg-pulling, with the new NW leader BVP Raju Garu.

obviously if you had met some of us when in Hyderabad, we might have ben motivated enough to do something good and constructive and intellectually stimulating and worthy of mention.

obviously you have not been intouch about the "Navjeevan" happenings where apart from Pam & Shiva (no offence to them) a lot of other people contributed in making the borewell happening, yours truly included ( a little bragging is ok). a lot of people also have made enormous contribution to Navjeevan in terms of clothes, books etc., hence you still equate Ehsaas with a handful of pepople (again, no offence to them) when actually a lot of people make things happen without expecting to be named and feted, equating Ehsaas with a few people takes away the contributions of others.

obviously, if you can show us some direction, maybe we can take this network to greater heights.....

as you can see I have not beaten around the bush here at all and await some constructive inputs from you.

Hey
SOme thoughts from an absentee hyderabadi from the PR (Pre Ryzerabad) era...

Guys..AM going to be VERy Honest.. so please excuse if I offend you, but I like saying it the way I see it, for anyone who would like to bash me up for my views or for offending them.. Email me !!

Guys.... Ryze is supposed to be networking and network building with fun! here I see it being so pedantic and so politically oriented.. why is tehre so much of bashing up and all that.... Personally when I do log in.. all i see is someone bashing someone up or ppl writing LONG LONG mails...

Get up and do something! DOnt make suggestions!! (Yeah I know i am a fine one to talk .. all the way from La Malaysia Boleh La land!.. But well.. here's my 20 sens worth of it!)

Ismi, Neo, remmeber our spur of the moment Odyseey and CCD meets.. lets hook up at TDS meets? etc etc?? where they gone? yeah... we had moderate responses but we had a good time!

When I log into Ryze.. I look forward to interacting with some interesting people , getting to know others from other parts of the corporate world, learning, and building up my network adn generating a few contacts (not improving my spellings mind you!) and having fun at the same time... I would not want to log on to a network fighting over sticky threads, bashing ppl over giving suggestions or other stuff, which I would rather not go into, but all of you know it.

We have a fun new leader and a moderator group right.. lets make this network fun (NO I DONT MEAN A MILLION WORD GAMES.. no offense to others!) put aside our personal differences! and do some fun stuff !!!

Ok things that I suggest!! (Might hav ebeen done before.. but lets just do it again.. and not discuss it to death),, something like the TIme out Mumbai or Bengalore.. lets have a top 50 food places in hyd... No .. Not the Fusions and the Angeethis.. but more of the chat fellow next to KFC, frnds corner , etc... let ppl share the TRUE hyderabadi expericne... and other stuff like that@ so when a person new to hyd logs in or someone looking forward to coming to hyd logs in... they know whats happening n this awesome city

Guys/ gals/ girls/ boys / in betweens, please lets stop bickering! I miss our hanging out sessions :(( Damn... Am gonna be in hyd next week.. neone for coffeee???? mail me!!

Long Live n LOve Ryzerabad!

Rajiv

That was exactly my suggestion of not getting motivated
People should be willing to come to Ryze and not being to pull/Call

As pointed by Nazneen,CCD Meets/Pub mixers and other activiites used to pull ryzers.

At CCD(Cafe Coffee day) meets Ryzers used to be at Coffee Day Somajiguda /J hills on friday evenings at 7.30 to 9. without tread being posted or informed

Ryze is been a great networking site and has made lot of freinds all around the globe, but seems to have lost some of the sheen to Orkut/Linkedin/Facebook etc

Happy Ryzing

I am happy that my reply to Ravi has elicited some response atleast.

We all need to take responsibility for our being here and contributing to the network's growth.

If you will all notice, practically all the posts on the main page have my name as the last contributor, which, while boosting my ego, is a telling indicator about the partipation of other fellow Ryzers, and the indicator says, pathetic.

My responding to you strongly Ravi, is because you are also among those who while complaining, do not contribute in any way to the network. Past glories and contributions are not being discussed here.

Tell me, how much time does it take to go through the posts and contribute?? 15-20 minutes max. If you are a slow typer like me, it takes 30 minutes. Is that too much to ask for?? To get something in return you have to first give. Not the other way around.

My fight, since day one, has been with people on this very same issue. Do not complain and criticise if you do not have the inclination to set right the wrongs by contributing in a constructive manner.

Contribute first, then crticise and complain with all your heart, becasue then you have earned the right to do so.

As far as long mails are concerned I guess some people can express better in short messages. I cannot.

ON the matter of this being your last post on the subject, that is totally your call. Either by implication or by indication, Don't lay the blame for that on my doorstep.

To summarize:
1. The sticky post stuff has been resolved.
2. We will have a Ryze meet once a quarter.
3. Offline Coffee meets will be an impromptu affair- 2-3 ryzers decide to meet up, put up a post on ryze 1 day in advance and other ryzers who're free can attend as well.

Aur kuch?

Yeah Neo - 'The Chosen One',

1) Yes, the sticky post stuff has been resolved, but still the topics have not been made sticky...BVP needs to do needful.....
a) Real estate - buy, sell, rent
b) Jobs and vacancies
c) Business - Intro your business, new opportunities

2) Ryze meets, when is the next meet due?? Ajay, I think u should talk about this since the dhabha meet is your initiative, pls take the lead, co-ordinate and tell us when and where to come and more importantly whip up a decent attendance for the same!!

3) Coffee meets - as u said, impromptu....

rgds,

Rajiv

arre Ismi bhaiya, kahe ko (trip) lete ho hamari publicly? :)

On the dhaba front, are there any good dhabas near hitec? Dhaba as in a proper dhaba, not the urban definition of a dhaba!

a mentor is someone who helps you to become successful in the business or profession he himself is a success in.

it is a personal relation / help and does not involve a monetary benefit to the mentor, who might take someone under his wing and mentor him for success or to take over from him once he is ready to vacate his position or chair..

for more details call me,,,,RSR.....you have my cell no, right?
