Happy Valetines Day!February 14th, 2004:How can music be illegal? Not in the US, surely. There is a real issue at hand, where the right of freedom of speech is bumping up against copyright laws that did not consider current uses of protected materials. All great works are made standing on the shoulders of the giants who went before. Who do you think is making a current contribution to human expression: the guy who owns the rights to the Beatles recordings, or DJ Danger Mouse? With all due respect to the master of The Moonwalk, and the Fab Four of another era, I've heard The Grey Album. YOU will not be allowed to. Your life is thus less enriched, and that is a crime against the common good.
TOKEN POLITICAL STATEMENT TO FOLLOWDecember 3rd, 2003: National Wish List Day is two weeks away [on December 15th], and the press still seems to be ignoring this pan-humanity, movement toward good in its entirety. I believe there is an offical site for this holiday and I am going to search for it and report back to my Ryze friends. Meanwhile, I did find this site: My Online Wish List. October 19, 2003: AYSO update... Happy to report the boys I coach, after losing their first 3 games, have not lost again, and their self-esteem is saved... Most of my intricate coaching ideas were... too intricate, but a really good pep talk does wonders [for kids playing soccer... and maybe for all of us, from time to time?] Kids are great. :-) They just amaze me with their ability to grow and take on challenges. And yet laugh. September 6, 2003: In the interest of sharing something more personal... I had my first game coaching AYSO soccer this last Saturday. 12 boys and their parents looking to me, just another parent but somehow elevated by random appointment. We lost! Parents pull me aside, wanting more from their boys, relate soccer as a metaphor for life, soccer even as a metaphor for the IT business. I scratch my head, rub it, knock it about over the weekend. Nope. No soccer in there. I grew up in an earlier America. Wait. Something bubbling. Creative juices flowing. I've got it. A new practice drill, mathematically, dynamically brilliant: The Matrix!. Someone hand me rope and stakes. Poor boys! July 2003: I've taken a day job at Fujitsu, affording me an excellent opportunity to learn a new style of business management. Innovation spoken here: Web Innovation. Update me on Pervasive Computing. The innovation continues ...Waddiz is an early stage incubator of unique web applications spanning areas like web services, digital media, and community marketing. We create intellectual property and new market categories. New applications of recent web technologies. Innovative business models. Our list of current projects is a bit undercover, but the older notions shown here remain as half buried clues, or perhaps a pirates' map with a big "X" on it, but no coordinates. Stealth or not, we cannot resist talking about our projects, and it is through these animated conversations that new brilliance emerges constantly. One might sail for weeks or months on an empty sea, and then island paradise pops up from the empty horizon. We're living on that horizon. Bring your own coffee - or rum. Eric QUESTION: Rum or coffee or Gatorade? What drink, what incantation for mixing it?
