Art experts say art is the only form of investment where prices don't come down ever. It's not as volatile as stocks, gold and property, and is not affected as much by economic downturns and, it provides the investor an aesthetic benefit, as well. So at the least, including art in one's asset portfolio is one way of diversifying risks and feeling good about it too.
Some of the basic questions to be asked before investing in Art are:
- How long has the artist been painting?
- Is he/she attached or selling thru a reputed offline (brick n mortar) Gallery?
- Is the Gallery/Art dealer offering assured buy back services.
- How much the Artists price has appreciated in last 12 months (per sq ft)
- How many exhibitions has he/she held?
- How well does his/her work sell and resell?
- Certificate of Authenticity, preferably signed by the Artist, provided by the Gallery to you at the time of purchase
These basic questions could help us spot artists who will emerge as best-selling masters in future, please feel free to contribute your tips and ideas here (as right now the network is free)
