Welcome to the Life Balance for Women network.
THIS GROUP IS FOR WOMEN, WHETHER MOTHERS OR NOT. THE FOLLOWING MAY SEEM TO BE MORE ABOUT MOMS BUT THIS GROUP IS FOR ALL WOMEN.
While some lucky working parents live near their mothers or other extended family, which readily take on some childcare responsibilities for them, most have lost that support. Many have a complicated, blended family and extended families live thousands of miles away. The security of the tribe or clan -- of “folk medicine and grandma’s wisdom” getting passed down the generations -- is all but lost.
Because many working moms still carry a sense of guilt, battle time constraints and have less support than our ancestors, a pervading sense of insecurity about whether or not we are parenting “right” abounds. Many modern moms have turned to a slew of parenting experts who fill only some of the voids. Myriad books surround us with parenting advice. However, parenting experts often contradict each other.
Working women, especially working mothers, manage a greater amount of stress than they realize. Women also tend to minimize this stress and put others ahead of themselves. This can often leave them feeling overwhelmed, run down, resentful and harried almost all the time.
This network is meant to provide that COMMUNITY -- Tribe/Clan -- that has been greatly lost in our busy, modern society. As facilitators, my partner Jill and I will be providing some of the discussion topics and online support, however, we encourage the collective wisdom that resides in each member to be expressed.
Please share your wisdom in a way that is speaking about what YOU have done, without giving advice when it isn't asked for. Remember "Men are from Mars and Women are From Venus"? Do you remember that women really need to be heard, but they don't necessarily want anyone to fix it?
Sometimes asking questions can be a great way to help others discover their own answers for themselves (which is always so much more empowering and impactful).
On the other hand, if someone is writing in asking for advice, then by all means, we are here to offer our collective woman wisdom to support each other in improving self-care and fulfillment.
Do remember to offer appreciation and positive feedback/support. Women do so much for other people in their lives and often get very little appreciation or recognition back. Let this group be a place where we can share our "Wins" and get applause.
Let it also be a place where we can share when we don't feel so great about how we've handled something and yet still receive positive feedback and support. Women tend to be so self-critical and harder on themselves than they really need to be.
We hope you will enjoy this network! We hope that it helps you find that balance, feeling of personal power and effectiveness to be truly fulfilled as women. We hope it helps you to increase and improve the care you take of yourselves.
REMEMBER THIS: YOU CANNOT BE THERE FOR OTHERS IF YOU AREN'T TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF. (A CAR WITH AN EMPTY GAS TANK CAN'T RUN).
