May 06, 2003 12:14 pm Blogging as Self Promotion?
Gregory Blake
Since I'm currently unemployed I have lots of time to think. Way too much time to think probably. I was wondering what people here use their blogs for. I wish I could find the original blog post, but someone discussed using blogs as a was to show an potential employer what kind of person you are. Which was a change in thinking to me. I'd always tried to keep my blog far away from anything work related. It's my personal site for me to just ramble on about whatever interests me, if others are interested in reading that's cool, but I don't really care. But after reading this post I started thinking about how well my blog represents me. Some days it does better than others, but I'm still not sure I'd go out of my way to tell a potential employer about it (though If they searched for my name on Google I'm the first hit).

I also don't think there is any 'right' way to blog. My personal site is one way to blog. I've also used blogs in a work environment as a place for people to post updates on what they are working on. So, what are other people's thoughts on all this.
