This is a huge help. Thanks!

The Weblog Resources FAQ is outdated (1999). Anyone reccomend a different FAQ to point to, or should the Tribe create their own?

I've published a number of blog software producr comparisons at Radio Free Blogistan, specifically comparing head-to-head LiveJournal, Blogger, Radio Userland, and Movable Type. I also plan to review pMachine soon.

Here's some quick advice:

  1. To get started blogging quickly and for free when you don't care about total control of your data and don't mind the prospect of maybe switching your blog somewhere else later, use Blogger
  2. To get started blogging quickly and easily and have control over your data, when you don't mind paying a nominal fee (approx $40/yr.), try Radio
  3. For more advanced users who have access to their host server and want control over their server and data, start with a free download of Movable Type (or, if you prefer a PHP-native tool, try pMachine
  4. If you just want to keep an online diary and are not planning to use your site for business networking, then LiveJournal is a good choice.

All of the above have free and paid options (with more service for paid users), except Radio, which does have a free 30-day trial option. Hope that helps.
