Competition to identify innovators
Chennai, Sept 22: In a move to identify grass-root innovators in Tamil Nadu, a competition to award innovative outstanding business plans of small-scale entrepreneurs was announced today.
The `Innovations for a better society' business plan competition would be conducted jointly by L-Ramp (the Lemelson Recognition and Mentoring Programme) and TFSC (Tanstia FNF Service Centre), said A Thyagarajan, consultant, L-Ramp.
L-Ramp is a joint initiative of IIT-Madras and Rural Innovations Network (RIN), a non-profit organisation. TFSC is a joint initiative of Tamilnadu Small & Tiny Industries Association and Friedrich Neumann Foundation, Germany.
Addressing a news conference here, Thyagarajan said the applicants should be from the rural areas and the innovation would have to address a large social problem, besides being a viable business proposition.
"We are scouting for grass-root innovators through the initiative. We are confident of finding several from our tiny and small scale sectors," he said.
The last date for receiving the business plans is November 22, 2005 and the winners will be declared on Dec 30, 2005. (Our Correspondent)
