Any hotel (I mean small hotels that dot the GST Road map) from Pallavaram to Tambaram Railway Station should be OK for you, considering your budget provision. Well, Le Meredien hotel is about 10 kilometers off Tambaram Railway Station. Pallavaram should be about 6 kilometers off Le Meredien. I think the tariff should be in the range of Rs.800- 1000 per day, even in these areas.

I have no idea about the tariff in lodges near Chennai Central Railway Station. But they should be pretty cheap too and much below the Rs.800 mark.

I am sorry I am not able to help you find an accommodation that would make you stay with a family, as of now.
