I assure you all that I am NOT trying to avoid a meeting. After all, I have been a common denominator here and cannot afford to spend my time in this network, with no objective. I certainly have my limitations too.
The very reason why I took the paid membership (Gold membership) is to start this network - WCFC. But, then, many a time, the one who starts any public activity may find the churning happening all the time. Being a common denominator is like being a Bus Stop. People come to a Bus Stop with the clear idea to catch a bus and go where there want to. The Bus Stop remains there. Think of this; I am managing the WCFC Bus Stop since September 2004! I have been witnessing a lot of debating here, in which I have also been participating. But the coversion rate from imagination to fruition is abysmal so far.
At the cost of repetition, let me say it once again -- which you all know, of course. The internet is a very powerful medium that gives a tremendous leverage to anybody to say anything and even commit anything. Translating virtual commitments, fellow-feeling, empathy, satisfaction, etc. to real time is a herculean job.
Internet is very young and obviously promotes a lot of youngish activities; quite understandable; it is required. Promoting PUREPLAY FUN through net is easier, much easier than promoting awareness, physical participation in agreed actions and more importantly ensuring continuity. The psychology of curiosity makes people ask questions or give suggestions on the fly in the net. To make a fusion of minds in FUN-oriented meets is lot easier than expecting people live up to their promises in service-oriented tasks. Thus, empathy in common cause remains ephemeral in the net. The challenge now before us is to disprove this. We have NOT been successful in the past, but we should continue to be optimistic, which is what life is all about.
This is a private network run by me and I am keen to make it a public network. I am still on the look out for a few, who can co-build WCFC and not just participate, while we always require a lot number of participants. Believe me, co-building WCFC can be exacting and exhausting; nevertheless enjoyable to those who strongly feel that they are the CHANGE-AGENTS. You should be able to dedicate a few evenings and week-ends for this co-building work. There is a lot of work for others too, who cannot give out their week-ends and week-evenings. But let's construct the platform first.
