Maya Shahani
Maya Shahani is the founding Director and Chairperson of the SAGE Foundation, which imparts enlightened education and social empowerment for creating extraordinary lives. Besides working in synergy with Life Members to promote education in India, she also works on various Life Members' projects in other countries.
During 2006, her achievements included being in the top three at September's EBS; launching SAGE Foundation to a global platform; generating pledges to SAGE through XL's Social Enterprise Accreditation Program; and adopting 94 villages to implement the SAGE model. This year's goals, she says, "centres around nurturing the 94 adopted villages, bringing education to children there, and creating craft communities so parents can generate a regular income."
Already a successful social entrepreneur, Maya feels XL has supported her to become even better by widening her horizons and 'getting her out of her boat'! "I now have a friend in every city in the world!" Maya says - and her illusion of limited resources has been replaced by knowing she has no restrictions in what she can achieve.
Maya asserts, " Be positive, learn to give without any expectations, and you get more in return! People in XL really help."
