hi...

there is no online course as such. you can try a distance learning course in creative writing from london school of journalism. you can find the url on google.

to build an entry level portfolio, take any existing ad with an existing proposition. let's say, you take Nike and the proposition is 'just do it'.

now make ads of your own, usung the same. you may chose a visual medium or words to sell your prouduct. copywriters need not be restricted to words. in todays time visual copywriting is much sought.
but remember, advertising is to sell prouducts. creativity is a tool not an end.

take vodafone. take durex. take honda. take any brand for that matter.
now try to create communication to sell these prouducts.
if you feel you can better the proposition they are currently offering, please feel free to go ahead and change it.

when you feel you have work that shows your ability to think creative communication [number of peices do not matter, content does] stalk a creative director at an agency you want to work in and show him your book.
it's a good idea to have his brands re-done in your book before you meet him. will make him take serious notice.

wish you all the best. let me know how it goes.

cheers

ps- visit www.neilfrench.com for tips. he is the most awarded and decorated copywriter of the modern advertising era.
