I'm very happy to have found this board. I'm not diagnosed with ADD but while reading Stephanie's Accidental Millionaire I was shocked to find out that she had ADD and what her symptoms were. I mean, doesn't every leave the cupboards open...? I thought about it for a few days and it still didn't make sense - i made A's in school, have been hired for every job I applied for although with one job when I hit the one year mark I was so psyched! Wow, 43 and finally stayed at a job for one year. (I left the next week).
Reading some of the signs of Adult ADD to my husband resulted in great hilarity, on his part. He kept nodding and saying, that makes sense.
So diagnosed or not, now I'm not only writing detailed lists of what I plan to do each week (my Sunday night hour long, plus event) I plan to keep these lists by my side so i can check every 30 minutes to see where I need to be and what I need to be doing.
Ah well, I'm a freelance writer and writing instructor, and am planning to open a retail shop soon, and I am a part-time nanny (until my shop opens) to two toddlers and a hyper-active 8 year old. Suddenly it makes sense why I am such a great nanny to them...I GET them, and they GET me: needs include lots of movement, music, constant entertainment and short, everchanging conversations.
And my first husband thought I was a loser because I changed jobs so often and kept starting my own businesses every time we moved for HIS career. I think we all should be enormously proud that we are sooo productive despite the constant stuff going on in our fabulous brains.
