I have not yet tried a mind map software but I can suggest the only software that has helped me gain any type of organization with my work and school.

Microsoft's Onenote has been a blessing to me.

Because it was included with Office and given to me by my college, I probably wouldn't have tried it. I just looked it up and it is $99 as a stand alone product.

I think Office's product Visio does much of what the other mind map programs do with more integrable features (but I am not certain).
