Book Promotion Ideas - Please post some for everyoneViews: 178

Jenny Sorry for the fly-by post here, but I'm swamped right now with work yet still wanted to help if I could ;)

1) Develop great relationships with booksellers in your local/regional area. They are terrific at keeping your books stocked, will host you for multiple events, and will push your books (hopefully autographed for better sales and harder returns) when you aren't there.

2) Bookmarks and the like DO work--but make sure that you've got purchasing and contact information on them. They say it takes six views of something before a person becomes enticed enough to consider spending money on the item. So, keep your name and the cover of your book(s) as visible as possible.

3) Develop 'freebies' to give away--special door prizes (a basket filled with contributions from local businesses), internet give-aways (such as free downloads) and think outside the box to protect your sales--in other words, avoid giving away free copies of the book you want people to buy. Use goodie packages, hand-made items, etc.

4) A newsletter is a great venue for updated information and added interest. Try to create one that isn't solely about you--but offers fun and inviting articles/items for a wider audience. For instance, my newsletter contains chocolate recipes, goodies for readers AND writers, a section called "Tickles" that features humor/jokes, etc. Interspersed are little blurbs about what books I have out for sale.

5) Be enthusiastic about your books! Whether you're doing an online chat, an interview, or just chatting with others, your enthusiasm goes a LONG way to intrigue readers to buy your book. Sharing how excited you really feel about your book creates excitement in others and there is nothing that sells better than that 'buzz' factor.

Hope that helps some!!
Warmly,
Jenny:)
