Wonderful thoughts.

To concur with what has been said, I think you are both accurate in this. Without a doubt, desire has to be there. Some might say that strong desire won't be there if you don't have other factors going for you - such as having found a business you want bad enough to have that fire within yourself.

Having been on the front line of the wrong career and the right career, there is a palpable difference when someone has honed in on a career that touches on their natural interests and abilities. I come from the school of thought that a person needs to figure out what makes them tick before they can find the long-term sucess. Otherwise, there is that continued sense of "something more" constantly out there. I believe when people try to psyche themselves up for something that is not truly exciting, ultimately that fire will go out. Therefore, I would have to offer "self understanding" as the first thing that needs to happen for long-term sucess (as I define it).

I would also like to add a phrase that I've heard from another which is: "Most people spend their health to make their wealth and later spend their wealth to get back their health." I think a road towards success involves designing your life in such a way that you are able to take care of yourself in the process.

In regards to the three factors, Knowledge seems to inherently precede motivation in the sense that we tend to learn of something before we can get fired up for it. However, I do believe that if you are doing something meaningful to "you", my opinion is that success will have to begin with motivation. Even in writing this, I'm realizing that these factors tend to co-exist and I'm not certain I believe you can have one without the other or that there is a black & white order??

Since it is known by many names today (MLM, referral marketing, etc.), Amit is right that success in this field is more a matter of knowledge and skill sets, plus drive and the ability to motivate others, than merely who you happen to know.
