How to have a succesful online business!Updated 7/1/03

Need a product?
Want your own online business but don't know what to sell? Go to a national department store for instance and pick out 50 unique items that do not have a price everyone will know, and you want to sell, like Submersible Fire Pumps to put in a swiming pool in case of fire. Write to the manufacurer, telling them you want to sell for them one at a time. You will be given a price. Next, you make a website for these items; add 25% to the price. You will still be cheaper on every item in your store than the department store. If you need to ask private email me. You get the payment keep your 25% commission and send the manufacturer their check and he handles the customer from there on. A perfect business model online.

Wording Wording and more wording?
I would suggest the following BEFORE going on line. Often a word or two will make the difference to whether a person responds or not. Try to use mystery and power words in your lead sentence. Try out your initial sentence in print in various newpapers and try to determine which wording get's the most response or you might try Bob Staup the leader of the OC Networking Alliance OCNA here at Ryze. Words like free, secret(s), are the most powerful or see your library You only bring out the price list after they bite, not when first viewing a business!! What's the first thing you do when faced with a sales rep that shoves a price sheet in front of you. You recoil and become standoffish. If you go online without the best wording, getting a customer to your site won't help either.

Name you Biz carefully?
Think about your company name too. It can benefit you or cause you a lot of pain. Searches will list your site higher if the word they type in is also in your name. For alpha based search engines you may want to secure a few additional domains to point to your site and will get you the first listing at an engine. Remebering that most engines only categorize com, net, org, and gov. I would stick to these. The number 1 beats A on alpha search engines so if they are going to type in networking Ex. I might want to be 1networking.com or .org or .net That way, networking is typed in giving it a 100% rating and the number 1 should get you a top listing but it points to your business name whatever that is. We can assist you with buying and maintain domain names and have them point to your site or we can do any or all of your project just ask.

Where do I put (hosting) my business?
Next the Internet has had 2.5 Billion unique URL's and we are approaching 100 million active URL's as we speak. That means 3.49 Billion didn't make it. Don't put your website out in the cold of Cyberspace, there are no road maps! Very simple, unless you have millions to spend like Amazon lost for 5 years, the odds are heavily against you. Host your ad at an online yellow pages site like ours and gain additional accidental visitors. Listings range from $50/Yr=14 cents a day to a Be Listed First $499/Yr=$1.37 a day. Depending on how you want your business protrayed on the page. We list by "first in first listed" your business name won't hurt you if it starts with an "X". ALL LISTINGS have a link to your website and email except "Basic" and it gives you an excellent platform to do business from. We even have free webpage design and $5/Month hosting with with a paid ads not Basic.

Site Content
Keep the wording brief and then go over the wording again trying to shorten it some more with a few graphics to break up the page. Try to have graphics lower on the page as they can be reading the text while the graphics are still loading. WHAT is your site all about with links to have some mystery to get them to click into your products. Example Face Care is your Product and "The secret to vanishing eye lines" might be click #1, or "Free hints to removing oils", might be #2. "The truth about Aloe" #3. Don't put everything on your main page unless you have only one page. Someone going to your site doesn't see what they are looking for and they are gone. The second part to the page should be "What are the benefits to the user from using your products" Use mystery like "Additional Proven Secrects, Q & A most asked? Testimonials on the success of the product are great. Make them look into your pages then a very short company history to build confidence followed by the "Close" again should be done by a Marketing expert, see your library for suggestions do not see websites, as frequently they know less than you do.

Keywords and meta tags
Try to be the first listed business at a yellow page site site if you can afford it as it is a confidence think with the viewer, but more important is that you do something to have visitors come to your site. Your site needs the best keywords and meta tags. How do I find good keywords. Well not at the bottom of a search engine list. You can easily go to www.google.com and type in a key word that you think someone will type in to find your business. When the list of websites comes on ignore the paid listings and click on "View" if using Microsoft (top left) and when the drop down menu opens going to Source. Most sites have the search engine keywords and meta tags displayed in the first few sentences of coding on the page. You should try and find the best 16 good keywords for your site. Pull up top 4 sites put them in an email send it to yourself and narrow that down to the best ones in order of how you think they will be typed, Hint Business is usually the first word as it tells the engine the main category. Make sure if the word(s) can be spelled with or without a space you list it both ways. Like yellow pages has 4.1M and yellowpages has 1.6M at Google. After you have finished with Google move on to the next and the next engine and place those in your sites keywords of if you are going to have us do it that will help us also. There are 17 deadly symbols in page titles that stop a search engine from listing your site and some sites rank you by the number of sites linked to you so that is important also. If just one site links to you it may be a big difference in ranking in the list. Get friends to link/banner to you and link back.

Eyeballs, Eyeballs, a matter of Eyeballs
You can't have too much presence on the Internet. Our site offers to submit your business at over 300,000 places online at Search Engines, Directories, What's New, What's Cool, Web Registries and Announcemment sites every three days for $499 a year. At 121 views/year that is about $4.12 each time it is run. This will get you into the sites, and get your business moving immediately. Now that you are listed you may want to move up in the listings. This can be accomplished by making your site look like the top sites in content, keywords, meta tags etc, but you will need other things to reach some of the engines. This work you can do but is very time consuming and can become your lifes work if not careful.

Want More? Maximizing cash flow
Are new additional site visitors (leads) worth 10 cents each? "Contingentcy" No upfront money, we take the last 10 weeks average as starting point, billed weekly, one year term, stats are from your own page. We list your business into as many search engines, directories, What’s New, What’s Cool, Web registries and announcement sites as possible (over 300,000) every three days in your 16 categories. Then we start to move you up in the lists at the engines, starting with your location on the lists at Yahoo, Google, AOL and the biggees! When that is done we move you to the top most position obtainable in as many locations on the web as possible to maximize your visitors. Yahoo, Google are only some of many search engines out there.

Pay for Results
Many sites have pay for results programs. Yahoo, Google and Overture are such sites. You pay for ONE word or phrase per contract or click-throughs. This may sound great but Microsoft got out of supporting this program for several reasons. When the term is up, any record of your company is gone like you never were there and you are in the same boat as when you started, hopefully with more cash, but maybe not. This program on works on natural language search engines and only on ONE word or phrase at one engine or associated engines. Is there something better?

Years later a comparison
Remember the eyeballs, well great search engine work will give you eyeballs for years. One such example is shown at Belistedfirst.com. After receiving and additional 87,000 new unique visitors in the first 14 weeks and 313,000 new unique visitors in one year, (the most accurate way of measuring traffic not hits) at Google, there was 30,700 listings in their main category and they were listed number 1, 2 and 4th and listed in 15 other categories there also. At Yahoo, they were in 5th in the main category and listed in 15 other categories too. Today well over 2 years later, Google now lists 187,000 listings in their main category and they are still listed in 3rd and still have 15 other category listings at Goggle sending customers and cash flow. At Yahoo, it now has 125,000 listings and they are shown in the 3rd paying position with 2 paid listings above them and in the other 15 categories too. Those two at Yahoo I believe pay $5,000 a month for 3 months for the top listing.

Google Loses
So if they would have paid Google for a single listing or click throughs; no other categories would be found and no other engines would be sending them new custoomers and cash flow but they would be one position higher on the list and when the time is up, THERE IS NOTHING LEFT. Our plan still has all those other engines are still out there sending you new leads, customers and cash flow for years to come plus you are still listed in all three major engines in your 16 categories including Google, Yahoo and Overture. So which makes more sense or cents?

Success?
If I do this will I succeed? Well that goes back to what you did in preperation before starting this venture. Product-can they live without it? Do they crave it? Is it price that sells? Why they want it? What benefits! If you follow this advice you should be successful. The Internet gives everybody to a chance to make a lot of money.
