My brother got rid of his PC and got an iMac because he was tired of all the viruses he was getting. I understand he can run both Mac and PC software on his iMac. Well, I wonder if that is because the iMac has both OSes installed on the system? I have asked my brother about this, but have yet to get a response.

I recall Reg saying it is hard to get "under the hood" of an Apple computer, whereas it is rather easy with a PC. Does that mean everything in an Apple computer is proprietary? If something goes bad in an iMac only an Apple product can fix it? Is there by any chance both Windows hardware and Apple hardware in an iMac? What is it about an Apple computer that makes it so much more expensive than a PC? Is it just hype or is there really something more to it?

I am asking for personal user opinions. This is not something a Google search or a Wikipedia search is going to satisfy.
