If you're looking for a new LCD HDTV don't be fooled by contrast ratios. There are no approve standards of measurement yet. Whatever they print on the box cannot be proved or disproved.
On the BF sales I got three 32" LCDs and returned two. They were a Magnavox, Samsung and Sony. They are all 720p and one said 15,000:1 contrast, another said 60,000:1 contrast and the Sony which I kept said 13,000:1 contrast ratio. If you could compare the units side by side you may see a difference in picture quality, but they will be close.
I chose the Sony Bravia 32" because Sony has the highest rating for longevity.
