Scott,

I use my Nokia N810 to make Skype calls all the time. Since I have a Skype-in number, I can call any phone anywhere in the U.S. and Canada absolutely free. No cell phone contract with rollover minutes or anything like that. I talk as little or as long as I want. Now, if I am not in a Wi-Fi hot spot, I am obviously not going to be making any calls or retrieving voicemail or email. But, I am not missing anything either. You see, like Poken, Skype works in a cloud, too. My Skype account exists in cyberspace - not in my computer. For that reason, I can access my Skype account from any online computer using a flash drive with Skype on it.

You should put SkypeLite on your Droid phone, add a Skype-in number and use it when you happen to have Wi-Fi access. No doubt, there are a lot of Wi-Fi hot spots in NYC. Where you have good restaurants you are bound to have lost of FREE Wi-Fi hot spots - especially in NYC. In fact, it would not surprise me in the least to learn there are more FREE Wi-Fi hot spots in NYC than any other city in the world. Now, I do not know that to be the case. But, I would not be least bit surprised to learn that it was the case.
