Ron:
I LOVE that photo. It's fantastic & really embodies Taylor's spirit. Something like it would be a good cover shot . . . still shares that socio-political aspect of his persona while showing him to be a Hollywood type.
It, however, has much the same issues as others of the same ilk. It's owned by a photo service that requires a sizeable chunk of change to buy rights to use it. That's the problem I'm up against. I found another (in a newspaper article) of him strolling down Constitution Ave. after he testified in front of the HUAC in 1947. He's flanked by policeman & a horde of people following him. The Capitol dome shows prominently in the background. It's perfect for what the book portrays of him but so far I've not found a quality copy, or been able to learn who owns rights. It was taken by a long-defunct news service, but their photos are supposedly now owned by a big conglomerate. I'm working on trying to find this one.
GOOD news, though, came yesterday via e-mail. Taylor's son, Terry, offered to send me a family photo album, in which there are many shots worthy of a book cover. He's packaging it up this weekend to send to me. I'll make copies of all photos that could work--I'll need inside-the-book shots, as well--& then send the album back to Terry.
And yes, Ron, Reagan gave Taylor's eulogy. Before he started his speech, he was crying & told Nancy that he didn't think he could go through w/it. He did, stopping periodically to quell his emotions. His daughter said it was one of the only times he'd been known to cry in public.
Blessings -- Linda
