Yes, like Andy covered in his reply, you can do more than just send ezines with autoresponders.

Many autoresponders allow you to send attachments (including ebooks, spreadsheets, etc.), but it's best to simply direct your recipients to a webpage where the download is available. Also, many people are weary about opening e-mail attachments in fear of infecting their computers with viruses.

The service I use allows unlimited autoresponders, so I use it to maintain my ezine, several update lists, as well as a "feed broadcaster" where an e-mail notice is automatically created and sent to my blog/podcast subscribers whenever it detects a new RSS content posted on my blog.

I also use autoresponders to keep in touch with my clients (it costs 5 to 7 times more money to find a new customer than it takes to sell to an existing one), usually by sending them "surprise" bonuses, request for feedback, 1 year anniversary "thank you" messages, special discount coupons, and more.

So although most people use autoresponders strictly for sending information, it's really up to your imagination to what you can do with it : )
