Julie Bestry
I'm Julie Bestry, president of Best Results Organizing in Chattanooga, TN. I'm a Certified Professional Organizer -- as such, I work with overwhelmed individuals to help them save time and money, reduce stress and improve their productivity through organizing skills and systems.

I'm originally from Buffalo, NY, but have also lived in Ithaca and Syracuse (having gotten my B.S. at Cornell University and my M.A. at Syracuse University). Later, I worked at various Southern market Fox, UPN and WB stations in Augusta, GA, Tri-Cities and Chattanooga, TN, as a television program director.

It was in the wackily fast-paced and detail-oriented world of broadcasting, where I developed a passion for teaching good organizing skills and creating effective systems with (I hope) patience and humor. I started out consulting with small market television stations to help organize their programming and operations departments and improve their efficiency. Then, as the post-9/11 economy made corporate job security less viable, I opted to turn my independent (and non-morning-person style) towards opening my own business.

I'm active in my chapters of the National Association of Professional Organizers, where I hold Golden Circle (veteran) status and the National Association of Women Business Owners. Aside from my Organization Tuesday posts here at The Business Consortium, I write articles, provide organizing tips on the local NBC affiliate, and deliver presentations to a wide variety of groups ranging from the Tennessee Public Health Association and the Federal Defender Services of Eastern Tennessee to Mothers of Multiples to various professional and social groups.

It all adds up to the undeniable fact that I have a lot to say and want to share it, whether it's talking casually, speaking professionally, blogging, posting or writing longer form material.

And, as a former TV exec, I can tell you that they can take the girl out of television, but they can't take television out of the girl. From classic series to little known "cult" programs (can Remember W.E.N.N. and Homefront get some love?) to whatever is hot (but scripted, rather than faux reality), I'm your source if you want to talk about TV. I'm also all about a great narrative, whether it's Jane Austen or Jasper Fforde, Lost or Doctor Who, Elvis Costello or Joan Baez.

Mostly, I want people to know that disorganization isn't a character flaw -- it's just a mismatch between the skills and systems you're using and the demands life is placing on you. Decide to have a more functional life, and then "Don't apologize. Organize." to achieve what you want.
