Super quick- There ARE foods -- well drinks, anyway-- that could "scratch your vocal chords" (not exactly scratch) and you should stay away from before any public speaking presentation. (And you thought you were being silly!)
Don't have anything citrus-y before a speaking event. It causes excess "juiciness" in your mouth. (I'll leave it at that.) That means no: orange juice lemonade or even water with too much lemon or lime
Also-- no sodas or carbonated beverages
Do I have to say no alcoholic beverages? Celebrate after with a glass of wine! But no shots of anything to "calm your nerves."
What you can drink: have a glass of water -- not too cold (and have it during your talk, too) clear juices (100% juice, not that fake 10% juice sugar beverage junk) iced tea (not too iced)
That will keep your mouth and voice in tip top performance shape!
Good luck!! Felicia
