This leads me to a question about another Google product, Google Wave.
Does anyone here use it, have heard of it, know what it's for, what it does and whether it's any good/have opinions on it?
Based on the marketing of Wave that Google did in it's early days of starting out, I was all excited about the prospect of using it. I thought it was basically the end-all-be-all communications tool and since I have so many non-profit groups I volunteer with and clients who I do free work with, I thought it would be ideal for online communication, meetings online, etc.
I sent a request to Google for an invite in August and in December, I finally got my invite(!) I played around with it a bit but couldn't really figure out what's so great about it.
As I understand it, it's sort of like mind-mapping, but you can automate to a degree, setting up alerts for topics you wish to follow, and then putting them in a "wave". Sort of like a heartbeat or path that tracks things related to those topics, and/or if it's a private wave, the alerts only come from the sources you invite (such as other email addresses or Gmail contacts).
But I really couldn't figure out why I needed it. I felt a bit short-sold, after having waited so long to check it out and finally getting there only to see it was not what I was expecting, it was pretty much underwhelming to me.
