When you think of game changers, what comes to mind? For me, it begins with the caveman discovery of fire. Think how the use of "fire" has changed the way our world works. How about the electric light bulb? What a bright idea (pardon the pun) that was. Then, there is the telephone, computer and the Internet.

Unlike many inventions, the bright idea with the Internet has evolved to move people in a "call to action" kind of way. That, to me, is really remarkable. It does not matter what language you speak, the Internet bekons with a "call to action" that is neverending. No wonder physical newspapers are going out of business. The public is no longer paying attention to them like they once did. No, today the focus of the crowd is centered around what the Internet has to offer.

Marketing guru Seth Godin has written another best-seller. It is called simply, Linchpin. The book is very good at making one basic point - every person on this planet serious about survival should make himself indespensible. And, just how does a person make himself indespensible? He changes the way he looks at the world. Rather than try to simply "fit in," he tries to stand out. This is no mere happy accident. This is most definitely a design. It requires looking at your surroundings differently than other folks. You're not different for the sake of being different. You're different for a reason that has a positive and passionate motivation behind it. You're looked upon as an artist rather than a lemming - someone who simply follows the status quo.

Jack Dorsey is someone I would consider an artist. He created Twitter and Twitter helped to define Social Media as we now know it. Well, guess what? Dorsey is at it again. This time, with a company simply called "Square." He's out to change the way you and I buy-and-sell products. And, I think he is going to be extremely successful. Not surprisingly, he's going to do it using a cell phone with a little square device plugged into the headphone jack. If you have not seen the video about this amazing service, visit Square.

I am a member of the baby boomer generation. To me, being square is not something one should aspire to. Nevertheless, I predict the dongle created by Square is one day going to be placed in the Smithsonian Institute, right along side Edison's light bulb and Alexander Graham Bell's telephone.
