I find I do better when I'm not on "the Big Three".

Imagine it's News Year Eve, and you're standing in the middle of Times Square. Is that a good place to give a presentation?

You need to find the right venue. Rochester is a big festival town. Starting with the Lilac Festival in the middle of May there's at least one event every week until Labor Day (the first Monday in September for those of you outside the U.S.)

Most weeks have four or five going simultaneously. And the crowds range from thousands to hundreds of thousands of attendees.

Now I can (and will) participate in the Lilac Festival and display my products to half a million people. However, I expect better sales by going to the Skin and Steel motorcycle (and tattoo) show (around 10,000 attendees), and even better sales by sponsoring the scooter club's rally (about 50 attendees).

The key is targeting.

While I have Linked-In, Facebook, and Twitter accounts, I don't use them much. Instead I regularly participate in several scooter-specific forums. Although their memberships are only in the low thousands, I get more business from them than I do from the major SN sites.

Targeting.
