The way things work in the world of promotion is changing. Just look at what is happening in the news media world - well-known newspapers like the Rocky Mountain News have gone out of business. Even the New York Times it had to borrow money from a wealthy Mexican to stay in business. This almost sounds more like fantasy than a possible reality. But, there is a reason why this is happening. The options for promotion are exploding - in large part due to Social Media on The Internet. Why run a classified ad in the local newspaper when you can post a tweet to Twitter and have it retweeted by numerous people for free?

The most clever innovation I have come across within the Social Media Space is Social Location Gaming. People actually use their cell phone to "check in" at a location like a restaurant and receive a reward for having done so. This has the effect of driving more foot traffic to the location in question. Therefore, the process is in itself a revenue generator. But please, don't take my work for it. Check this system out for yourself. Here are some recommended steps:

Step 1 - Join Foursquare.com.

Step 2 - Add me as a friend on Foursquare.com.

Step 3 - Add my long list of friends to your friend's list. (It's possible to all add both there Twitter and Facebook link to you as well.)

Step 4 - Always "check in" with Foursquare when you arrive at a restaurant or similar venue.

Step 5 - Watch as your audience grows and people begin to interact with one another receiving rewards simply for showing up. This could turn out to be amazing "third-party buzz" for your business. It is already doing amazing things for the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Want proof? Visit Foursquare + A Symphony.
