I don't think enough people are taking a bottom up approach to site development. Google did just that and the results are clean simple design from infancy to maturity: www.zamchick.com/google Gary > Kyle Pero wrote: > Macromedia is featuring Burger King’s official website (bk.com) as their Site of the Day. Of course Macromedia loves this site because it uses nothing but flash and other macromedia products, but for me this has to be my pick for the Worst Site of the Day. Burger King’s site makes you sit through a ton of useless flash movies before you can get to any information. BK.com demonstrates a classic mistake of most commercial websites: Entertaining the user is top priority rather than informing the user. If a person goes to Burger King’s site they don’t want to see a commercial they want specific information.

>For instance, when you click on Food and Nutrition, in the top navigation bar, a snazzy and rather long flash movie loads and at the end of it you get some weird mystery meat (no pun intended) navigation system. A list of links on the left also appears on this page. When you click on the first link on the left, WHOPPER® Sandwiches, you get yet another weird navigation system of flying whoppers. Why couldn’t they just cut to the chase and give you the nutrition chart (http://www.bk.com/Food/Nutrition/NutritionWizard/index.aspx).

>It really worries me that marketers and business owners’ buy-in to sites like these. Everything is always about how “cool” it is rather than how functional it is. There are times when I wish production tools such as Flash and Fireworks didn’t exist at all. That way designers and site owners wouldn’t be compelled to abuse these tools by creating sites that use nothing but crazy and cool features that make it next to impossible to navigate.

>Take a look at Wendy’s website (wendys.com), one of Burger King’s top competitors. In my opinion, their site has too many huge graphics and a useless splash page, but at least their site is functional and easy to traverse. Also, since this site doesn’t use Flash there is no waiting for movies to load and run before you get to the content you want.

>This was just my two cents on what I thought was an interesting pick for a Site of the Day. I‘m interested to hear what the group's thoughts are on this.
