Stephanie;

My philosophy for any website is that, rather than one approach to the entire website, each site has various layers that must be dealt with according to the purpose of that layer. Something like the layers of an onion.

As an example of contrast, an ecommerce site, on the surface, needs to convey brand excitement and marketing message, yet when one is at the checkout stage, the focus is on pure functionality of completing the purchase.

The differentiation becomes less visible in a pure online application where the main funtion of the entire site is productivity.

That's my 2 cents.

Brian
