What actually is the percentage of NN4 users? Is there some set of statistics based on a total number as well as by income, geographic area, education level, etc.? This would be a good number to know when discussing a website project with a client. Selling to IT people might mean a 0% NN4 installed base, but someone looking to sell discount shoes might encounter a very different number, and their site would need to be designed accordingly.

I think if we are the ones who have the ability to make that decision it would be a different story, but ultimately it's up to the business to decide if it's OK to ignore (or pay less attention to) a small percentage of their audience that could be potential customers. This is a battle that is almost impossible to win since marketers would never be OK with a B&W text version of a site and businesses don't care about changing the mind of it's users about their browser... they just want them to buy their product(s). I think it's definitely more of an issue with e-commerce sites. I had a similar discussion awhile back on a board about this same issue (http://www.web-graphics.com/mtarchive/000829.php). > Private Reply to Frank Collyer (new win) |
