Kyle is spot on. I very much recommend Mikes book as well. And not just because he's a friend of mine but because he has poured a vast amount of knowledge into the book and it's fast becoming THE tome for User Research information.

This book truly is for the daily practitioner. I thought the chapters on conducting user interviews and creating surveys were invaluable. This book also covers creating a research plan, budgeting for research, recruiting users, creating personas, analyzing log files, card sorting and developing quick user research reports. >
