You need to have as much technical knowledge required to perform the role of a UX guy as best as possible, this usually varies from org to org.

Large organizations tend to have people who can be dedicated to carry out more technical tasks whereas smaller organizations usually require UX people to multi-task as it may not be mission critical to have the UX guy on board in the first place.

If you feel you're not tech enough it does not mean that you'll not be able to perform the role well enough.
