The third RainSeed Festival will find Thermal And A Quarter sharing stage with vintage rockers Midrange, accordion duo The Tremolos, and acoustic fusion act Earth Born. To be held on January 17th 2004, Saturday, at the Trans-Indus eco-village on Kanakapura Road (jus before Art O living, take the road after valley school), the festival is continuing in the tradition of introducing new, underground and original sounds to the Bangalore audience.
As usual, plenty of cross-talk and spontaneous jams are expected. The concert will begin at 8:30 and proceed into the wee hours. Tickets for Rs. 100/- will be available at the venue.
Midrange has been around for more than a decade now, and is perhaps best known as a classic rock act, covering a whole gamut of retro material. A treat for nostalgic concert goers looking for a dose of some good old 60s, 70s or 80s sing-a-longs, Midrange is also working on promoting original material, and will showcase some of their recent songwriting at the gig. Influenced strongly by Deep Purple, Midrange has performed alongside Agni and 13AD in the past, and has been featured on Radio City. The current line-up has Angelo Vincent and Tyrone on guitar/vocals, Sarat Sidhan on bass/vocals and Santhosh on drums/vocals.
The Tremolos have done much to popularize the accordion, playing music specifically suited to its tonal and dynamic range. Hailing from the Basavanagudi area in Bangalore, M.B.Prakash and Sanjeev Das Mohapatra are connoisseurs of European folk, and their masterful renditions of Musette Waltzes, Polkas, Tarantellas and Tangos have inspired many a listener to trip the light.
The Tremolos usually perform as a trio, with P. Ravindra, a former student of Prakash filling in the third spot. They have performed at local and international venues, showcasing the versatility and magic of this complex instrument.
Earth Born, composed of Jagdeesh (guitar), Madhuri (vocals) and Sukanya Ramgopal (ghatam) will perform at the festival as a trio. Complemented by Prashanth on bass and William D’Souza on drums, the band has previously performed at various venues, including a Greenpeace concert (Jan ’01) in Chennai. Presenting original material influenced by Indian classical sounds as well as the harmonies of jazz, Earth Born has a strong melodic core and is working on releasing an album sometime this year.
About Thermal And A Quarter
Thermal And A Quarter gained instant fame in April 2001 opening for British rockers Deep Purple in Bangalore. The band dates back to 1996 and made waves for its unusual name and genre-busting music. The current line-up has Bruce Lee Mani on vocals and guitar, Rajeev Rajagopal on drums and percussion, Rajesh Mehar on guitar and vocals and Rzhude on bass and vocals.
In 2000, the band launched its eponymous demo album followed by Jupiter Café in August, 2002. Their music is also widely distributed on the Internet (www.thermalandaquarter.com for details).
