Indeed, Canon has recalled certain models of cameras including several in the A series. Apparently the problem came to light when Sony, the supplier of the CCD, discovered that the sensor suffers from low tolerance to heat and humidity. So using it here in India or other tropical countries causes the sensor to fail.

Canon is the only one offering free replacement for old cameras too. Sony is doing it only for those in the warranty period or just past the warranty. Nikon is charging customers who's cameras are past the warranty period.

For those who have not yet taken advantage of the replacement, DO IT SOON! You never know when it'll stop.
