Heritage is at peril when people choose to or otherwise forget what it was that made them what they are. The heart and soul of a city are soon filled in with concrete and steel and what emerges is a misshapen form of what once was. It then takes a million strokes of a chisel to remove the ugly mortar and expose the beauty within. Bengaluru is no different from the myriad other cities that have been smothered under the so called development efforts. Somehow development here has always seemed to be at the expense of the beauty that once was hailed by one and all. Now the gardens are brown and the lakes dry. And till recently it seemed that nobody really cared a damn as long as they were making hay while the sun shone. That was until Prakruthi decided to do whatever it could to bring back some semblance of the glory of Bengaluru's heritage. The Band Stand at Cubbon Park was chosen as the starting point for this journey of rediscovery. The medium chosen for this was music, as it was believed good music has a unifying effect for people as it brings out memories that people associate with certain songs and music has always been an integral part of any culture. Over the past 9 months Prakruthi's efforts towards rekindling the heritage spark have worked wonders. From the first Cubbon Park Band Stand evening which brought together a scattered crowd of about 50 curious visitors, today several thousand enthusiasts gather every Sunday evening to witness the resurgence of their heritage. Over 30,000 visitors have had an opportunity to be a part of this movement. one more Bangalore initiative which is been silently gaining momentum and approval from the larger masses. This is a initiative which aims at bringing back the long last days of pure un adulterated entertainment amidst spectacular nature. This initiative also aims at spreading environment awareness through distribution of saplings every week. "Prakruthi" is the brain child of Shankar Prasad and Praveen D Rao. At the core of this initiative is a series of concerts rolled out every Sunday evening between 5pm and 7pm at Cubbon Park Band Stand. These concerts are delivered by reputed and budding artists and bands and the entry to these are absolutely free for everyone. The content is spread over a magically arranged buffet of long lost kannada songs to bhava geete to instrumental ensemble. Some of the prominent musicians to have performed here are C Ashwath, Sangeeta Katti, Supriya Acharya, Raju Ananthswamy, 2 Japanese singers singing Kannada numbers to name a few. These concerts are typically attended by anywhere between 500 to 3500 people every Sunday.
Please remember namma Bengalooru belongs to each one of us,experience the difference this Sunday with B.Jayashri singing 'RANGAGEETHEGALU' Only at Bandstand, Cubbon Park. Thanks and Regards Team Prakruthi 99453 68083Private Reply to shankar prasad (new win) |
