Hi DeAnna-

I've never personally surveyed my subs. However, surveys I have seen in ezines usually have a "bribe" attached to them, e.g. free report, free ebook, etc.

I agree that you want to write on a topic that your audience is interested in. However, I wonder what kind of ezine you publish if you don't already know this about your subscribers. For instance, I publish an ezine on snippy, quick to implement e-marketing tips. So, I know that my subs are interested in furthering their businesses without embarking in huge projects to do it.

I also publish a "shopping" ezine. And this is very very general interest, but I do know that my subs are interested in "good deals" and therefore may be interested in financial strategies for the household, etc. but, I'm not certain. I've sold everything from hot-tubs to books on tape through this ezine.

What are your subs interested in? Is your ezine focused enough to already have an idea about this?

With ebooks or any kind of writing, even an ezine, I recommend that you choose a topic that is interesting to YOU, so you can enjoy the creation and the promotion process. Then, you'll attract an audience that is interested in the same things as you.

But, I see where your going with this and why you would want to get clear from the get go. I'd start with a simple question or 2, not a 3rd party survey site, just to see what kind of response you get and to help you determine who is actually reading your ezine in the first place.

hth,
lisa

I'm thinking of adding some more services and I also want to see what kind of products they may be looking for. I write ebooks and I think it would be silly to invest my time in writing an ebook that my own list isn't interested in. What do you guys do when you run surveys?
