I suggest you start by joining a professional association like SHRM, the Society for Human Resources Management. Through them you can access a wealth of information, including access to training programs on a variety of issues. There are also professional certifications of various types in Human Resources that you could pursue, and studying for those would expose you to the many laws, regulations, and operational best practices that you'll need to know.
